Misleading reports related to IAF capability and Pakistani media bravado

The Indians are comparing the actual strength of their air force with a reference target set by them. When they see deficiency they highlight it in every possible way. Our air force has a target of 150 JF-17 for now and at the current rate of production of 16 to 20 aircraft per year it may take 5 to 6 years dpending upon the rate of supply of components. Our air force should also lobby the government to give it more resources to finish this target as early as possible so that we can go for export and earn some valuable foreign exchange.

Recently a lot of reports are surfacing from India regarding its air force's acquisition problems. The Indian media is patriotic, intelligent and far sighted enough to provide its people with a false sense of insecurity so as to stress upon the government to provide necessary funds for IAF for modernization.

The Indian media conveniently leaves a lot of stats out of the report whereby giving a very gloomy and dismal outlook of the IAF's capabilities. Pakistan's media is stupid enough to take that report on face value and starts chest thumping thus playing its part in consolidating indian government's pledge for further hike in defence budget.

Just by glancing on the first page of the airforce subforum, we have two baseless threads.

Below is a graph showing different generations of aircrafts in PAF inventory. The BVR capable fighters would be the only single engine 4/4.5 generation fighter which constitutes a little over 25% of the entire fleet!

As most of PAF's fighters are over 20 years old, their crash rates are gradually
taking their toll on paf fighter aircraft numbers. A lot of fighter pilots have lost
their lives because of the age of the aircraft fleet.

The production rate of the 4rth generation bvr capable JF-17 fighter has been alarmingly slow and is a matter of great concern for the people.These aircrafts are not the cutting edge of technology, however they allow paf to retire old 2nd generation fighters and thus save the lives of its young pilots both in war and peace.

Aircraft enthusiasts also recall the Mirage 2000 saga where a very potent aircraft was not inducted due to unknown reasons. The acquisition of 4.5 generation J-10 aircraft also seems to be put on the back burner. One can only hope that the economical situation in Pakistan becomes better so we can see induction of new platforms, more F-16s and long range surface to air missiles.

The Indian Su 30MKI with a huge 1500Km combat radius is capable of deep strikes in Pakistan. It is augmented with Mig29 and Mirage2000 both of which are also latest bvr capable fighters.These make over 300 bvr capable fighters not to mention the latest upgrades on their large fleet of 3rd generation fighters. None of the PAF aircrafts match the 200 su30 mki in their range and weapons payload capacity.

Even after the above quantitative and qualitative comparison, IAF is planning
to further induct another 126+ 4.5 generation rafale fighters not to mention
5th generation fighters like pak-fa and fgfa which will skyrocket the qualitative and quantitative edge that India already possesses. Pakistan can not afford a complete generation gap in capability and might need to induct 5th generation fighters at the same pace as India as you cant bring a knife in a gun fight.That would translate into the chinese J31 induction in paf. It's cost and capability remains to be seen.The Indian Navy plans to establish three naval aircraft squadrons that will fly MiG-29K/KUB.

In the past 7 years, PAF has inducted AWACS, Air refuelers and BVR platforms which is a testament to the higher ups in PAF who have infused these much needed capabilities rather quickly. PAF has maintained it's high level of training. Now Pakistan is slowly increasing the number of BVR capable aircrafts with better avionics and standoff weapons. There is a speculation that JF-17 block2 would be a much more capable platform than blk1.

This is just a request by air force enthusiasts to the Pakistani media to not to propagate Indian reports / propaganda without doing some in depth research on the matter. PAF does not have qualitative and quantitative edge over IAF.
Do you think during war our af will pump 700 out 700 jets..... We will possibly put atmost 400 jets....the aircrafts from n.e.r region and other along chinese border will never go to the westrn front....because we are completely outnumbered by plaaf...atleast for 1decade...we cannot afford a two front war till then
 
I don't think Pakistan is issue for India....... Our major threat factor is china But............................... Also I think they don't support terrorist and no chance war with INDIA and China....
 
Underplaying capabilities of IAF will only lead to higher expectations, Better funding and better systems being made available for the airforce. I will do my part...I hope other do too.
 
Great analysis, except Pakistan has not a single "4.5th" generation Aircraft and the only true 4th generation jets are that of F-16 block52 and MLU's.JF-17 is not a 4th generation fighter.

Define 4 generation
 
Well, Indian media one day claims that IAF can fight on two fronts simultaneously, next day they seem to portray IAF incompetent to defend on a single front much less fight on two. Seems as if Indian media wants to publish what the Indian public wants to hear but then gets a rude awakening. The Commanders from both sides would reassure their people with their capabilities but at least the Pakistani media hasn't adopted the slavish attitude of their opposite number who have even gone as far as giving a breakdown of the ten Indian steps to the destruction of Pakistan. ...Bravo.


Basically Indians are a CONFUSED lot.
 
War scenario ...Pak and india both are capable to do serious damage to each other..indian media after pakistan which is understandable state machinery works under the state orders..but unfortunately Pak media working against pakistan for sake of their TRPs or what not.pak media has so many idiots it's hard to choose who's place for number one..at the end Pakistan is down but not out..we are kind not week.india and Pak both have a lot to learn from the best countries has worked for their people and move forward..!

yes thats true...... @Horus thats what i meant by saying we lack in the field of IT&propaganda. We might have improved in some segments of the propaganda game but we still lack the overall grip viz a viz our enemy who has a massive control and grip over its media....We lack in instigating massive propaganda and that too in this depth.....Whatever we do, we end up looking like an idiot..We need to just learn from israelis (who know they are small but pay tons of bribe to reputation int. media to project them as victims and insecure).

But it seems indian media has learnt that quite well under the guide lines of RAW and their military bureaucracy.

This forum is a testimony to what you are saying. For effective propaganda and to put out a united message.....you have to have Nationalism first. Indian's, no matter what political party, religion or belief system or at times hatred for their system they may have, will STILL sound like "I Love India, its System". While Pakistani's are more like, I hate everything in and about the Pakistani system because my uncle's friend or my political hero didn't get elected for the PM or other seats. Your message comes across divided and broken. There are a few threads that tell the world some good things happening inside Pakistan, like some infrastructure projects, oil and mineral exploration and all. BUT, if you read Pakistanis messages, its sad to see how everyone thinks whoever is in power is corrupted, the system is corrupted and all because, someone's political hero didn't get elected for power seat. Until this individualism exists, you won't even show a united nation to the world, let alone countering propaganda like India's massive media assault.
 
Define 4 generation
General understanding is AESA radar systems separates 4th generation and 4.5th generation fighters.
Like the Mig 35 with Zhuk-A AESA will compete as a 4.5th gen aircraft, whereas Mig 29 With a NIIR Pahaztron Zhuk ME will classify as a 4th Gen aircraft. Similarly a Blk 52 F16 with An/APG 68 (V9) would classify it as a 4th gen platform whereas F16 BLK 60 with AN/APG 80 Aesa would classify it as a 4.5th gen a/c.

Along with AESA some might argue other systems like OBOGS, Sensor Fusion systems with intelligent self defence suite's, RCS reduction coating and airframe modifications and better multirole capabilities as measurable metrics that are better iterations than their predecessors or competitors might also classify them as 4.5th generation, but that will still remain open for debate as they might be dubbed as 4++ Gen instead of 4.5th gen systems.

There are no real standards that qualify a system as certain generations so it would remain debatable.

Without understating capabilities of IAF, I would say IAF currently has no 4.5th gen aircraft's, all of our current inventory is 3rd and 4th generation aircraft. And by @Manticore 's classification of F16BLK52's as 4.5th gen system, IAF still has to play catch up so we can atleast have Four 4.5th Gen platforms by
fast track induction of MMRCA,
MKI upgrade with Tikhomirov NIIP Irbis N036 Byelka radars,
Mig 29 UPG and Mig29K/Kub with Phazatron Zhuk-A
LCA Mk2 With Uttam Aesa.
