The five storied Taqwa mosque is a renovation and extension project of an existing mosque building. It is an endeavor to merge an existing structure to the surrounding landscape greenery and Dhanmondi Lake. The trees onsite defined the renovation, as the lines delineating the plan shifted in effort to conserve all existing trees harmoniously coexisting with nature. It took inspiration from the Masjid Nabbi at Medina in ensuring the clarity of expression with the original mosque and the extension.
The mosque, unlike its contemporary counterparts, exists with no ornamentation in form and is in cohesive being with nature. It has a façade treatment of brick masonry, wooden louvers and exposed steel truss. The façade is decorated with wooden calligraphy of Qalma Tayyaba giving pause to the vertical monotony by louvers.
