wait so now you realize that Mumbai needs city planning? laughable.
Mumbai is a case study on how not to let uncontrolled urbanization destroy a city. Cities in India are a mess and only pointing at illegal hawkers is myopic. Most of your shop-owners are marwadis who get along fine everywhere else in the country save for your maximum mess city, not hard to isolate the issue afaik.


An example of how historical upheaval is used as an excuse to justify current misgivings. The people making all the noise have at most fought malaria and dysentery during their lifetimes.
What India needs is centralized control in terms of planning urbanization and city development, kind of like what China does. We need entry barriers at least to protect exhausted cities like Mumbai.

Now you know why we have hukous right? It's to control the migration, as long as you can find employment, and buy a property, then you qualify for hukou, so you don't squat and overburden the social system.

But I am shocked the xenophobia is pretty strong in Maharashtra.

But I am shocked the xenophobia is pretty strong in Maharashtra.

I am a Maratha by birth. But lived outside the state till I was 17. I have been living here since then. Now I am 47.

There is no xenophobia. Please do not troll.

I would go as far as to say that Maharashtra is by far the most civilized state, not to mention the most industrialized, the most prosperous, and the most accommodating of out-of-staters in India.

When you live in Maharashtra and then got to other parts of the country, sometimes you actually feel the gulf of separation.

Maharashtrians are chilled proud folk. They are justifiably proud of the martial history. And yes, they are on the whole very strong Hindus. But there is a lot of culture and finesse here. A lot of class. And all they expect from out-of-staters is respect for the local culture and language. And that you do not behave like a turd when living here.

Here's the thing.
I'm a champion of regional rights and languages.
But Bombay was built from nothing by outsiders, from South and North.

I hate how the North culture is ruining Mumbai, but Marathas should chill out and come up with constructive solutions.

of course not..my point was, they are from other parts of the country but still has the courage to setup illegal stalls...usually, locals with local political connections get into such business in other parts of India...

Renaming Bombay as Mumbai does not make it a Marathi city. Look at the city - along with Calcutta, Bombay is by and large a British-built city. Look at the buildings in Ballard Pier, Fort, Churchgate etc. MNS is a bunch of useless goons who deserve to be thrashed. If they care so much about Maharashtra and Marathi pride, why haven't they agitated to change the name of Aurangabad to Sambhajinagar. How come these goons did not come out on 26/11 to "save the city"? They are basically unemployed youth who should be taken to task.

Mumbai is too small, and too many people. It's only 600 sq.km. But 21 million people.

If you don't understand.... I live in a small city (county-level) in China. The area is 500 sq.km. and the population is about 500 thousand.
