During WW2 the Chinese in SE Asia fought the Japanese. The Malay and Indians surrender and serve Japanese. Then the British came back to Malaya, and Dutch to.Indonesia.
The Japan sabotage the white man by rally their Malay collaborators and tell them to fight for independent. That is the reason Japan keep ranting WW2 emancipate the white man colonies.
ALL current status quo in Malay archipelago is the scion or somehow related to the guys who work with Japan, including Indonesia.
Sukarno of Indonesia is not very rascist and he set the tone for the future Indonesian.
In Malaya, UK promoted a racist Malay call Tunku Abdul Rahman who call for Malay and Islam supremacy. Next the UK government hunted the Chinese resistance fighters down and many are killed. The reason being, these fighters are communist.
There is a strong suspicion that radical Islamic movement especially modern Jihad is a creation by British and later USA to harm interest of others. The Israel enemy like PA, Baath, Nasser are all "socialist type not the Jihad type.
Many people do not know that the white man are uncomfortable with Chinese power in SE Asia. Islam is a means to harm us. The rise of radical Islam in Malaysia has a lot to do with British support of UMNO and their most radical elements.
In Indonesia, USA support the Islamist and army against socialist Sukarno (pro China pro USSR).
Islam is a weapon against the socialist.
Singapore Kuan Yew also served a scandalous role in helping to take down the Indonesia Sukarno by serving as a logistic and forward post for USA. But at that time, Sukarno is unfriendly with Singapore and want to invade us as well.
The take down of Sukarno was followed by a big massacre of Indonesian communist and Chinese are collaterals as many are communist sympathizer.
Ironically many rich Indonesian Chinese are able to park their wealth and find refuge in Singapore. Singapore as a haven for Indonesian Chinese elites has a long history.
Kuan Yew did help white man screw Sukarno, and the result tragedic to Indonesian Chinese. But Kuan Yew did harbor Indonesian elites (not the peasant).
The SE Asian history are extremely convoluted, and this is the best I can summarized.
I will write more later.
