Mahindra Naval Systems poised for geometric growth | Business Line
PUNE, MARCH 4:
Mahindra Defence Naval Systems (MDNS), a company that makes a host of defence systems for the Indian Navy such as torpedo launchers, decoy launchers, sea mines and missile containers, is poised for geometric growth, Mahindra Group Chairman, Anand Mahindra, has said.
A part of the Group’s plan to build capability to enable it play a greater role in the indigenisation of India’s defence sector, MDNS has just begun production from a new, bigger plant at Chakan, and will focus on underwater systems.
“Long journeys begin with small steps, but it is important to enter because unlike other pilot projects that start small, this has to do with saving lives and keeping the country secure,” Mahindra said. The company's revenue had doubled from Rs 10 crore last year to Rs 20 crore this year, and was poised for geometric growth, he said, adding that while some products had been developed by them, DRDO was also working with it to develop new products.
Among the new products being developed are a New Torpedo Defence System and a heavy weight torpedo launcher. While the Group is currently going solo, Mahindra said that joint ventures or partnerships will be made whenever necessary.
