Made in India AWACS to roll out in February

Which Embrader variant we are getting for this?

This one?

I think SAAB Erieye use the same platform which was delivered to PAF.

the variant may look like these

Yes it does not...because there is no space in it. it is as simple as that. it is an AEW&C not an AEWC&C

That's not correct and I think you mistaken the terms AEW and AEW&C. AEW is just an older term that discribes basically the same and DRDO AWACS will be able to do basically the same as A50 Phalcons in the detection and comanding field as well. The difference lies mainly in the effectivity!

Platform:

EMB 145 is smaller and offers less space for operators, equipment, or restrooms. AFAIK the highest number is 6 operators, while the A50 has twice as much. While the endurance of the DRDO AWACS is limited mainly on the human factor (both aircrafts can be refuelled in air, so that is not the issue), the A50 can carry even a 2nd crew, in the restrooms, that even included beds. That means you need at least 2 x DRDO AWACS for the same endurance of an A50 Phalcon AWACS, but on the other hand, 2 x aircrafts can cover more space as well.

Radar:

The A50 today uses a fixed dome with triangular radar arrays, that offers full 360° radar detection, so without blind spots, although the overlapping areas should have not the same detection range.
The DRDO system uses a twin array which offers detection to the sides only, that means it will fly alongside the borders and will use overlapping flightpaths to cover the other areas.
With bigger powerplants the A50 arrays should be able to get a higher detection range too, but these figures are mainly classified, or estimated only.
Saabs Erieye system is said to detect fighters up to 350Km range, the A50 Phalcon around 400Km (media, or wiki reports often talk about Phalcon AWACS, but don't consider that there are different versions of Phalcon AWACS, which obviously don't offer the same detection range),
The DRDO system is expected to be slightly below the Erieye ranges.

Radar system:

Elta is known for their good radars and the Phalcon system is said to be one of the bests. DRDO instead is a new player in this field and is just at the begining, even if they got help from the Israelis, so there should be no doubt about which one is more capable.

Both systems will do the same job, but the A50 offers advantages as a platform, the radar offers advantages in coverage and range, the Phalcon system advantages in capabilities, but as a cost-effective addition to the Phalcons, it will be more than useful.
The surveillance area is imo the most important area for our security and we have not only a very large area to cover, but also numerous of borders. So the biggest mistake we can do is, to bet on high capable but costly aircrafts only, when we need mainly numbers here.
More Phalcons are needed, but we should go with more Embraer / DRDO AWACS as well, to have a lower cost alternative in higher numbers.

:agree::agree::agree:

Still such arrangement has blindspots. the least they should do is is to copy the arrangement of Phalcon.

Then it needs a bigger platform. And is going to cost a lot more. It will become a true AWACS then. But doing so will increase the cost by atleast twice. We have a large area to cover and hence the Blade shaped antenna is far effective in raising numbers..the Five Phalcons complemented by these will be a better solution.

Lets hope so..

..wrong as usual :coffee:! look at the scale model below, do you see a bulge on the side of the fuselage above the wing root, that is a conformal antenna, other conformal antenna arrays located around the aircraft will provide better coverage than is possible with Erieye.

You meant to say DRDO AWACS is better than Erieye??

. .
She meant there will be more coverage and reduced blind spots. Not better than Erieye.

And Happy new year Kathy.

That is the prime role of a AWACS, isn't it? if it is giving more coverage than Erieye, then it is definitely better than Erieye. Ya of course because of less space and man power, it might be not as operational and self sufficient as a command control system as Erieye is.

Well you are wrong..Erieye radar has a proven track record. This is our second attempt at an indigenous AEW platform. The Pakistani Erieye also lacks the command infra inside the aircraft. Erieye is the name of the Radar and the platform is the system. Same goes for Phalcon.

That is the Singapore Phalcon which is mounted on an Gulfstream 550

The CABS radar will undergo rigorous tests and then has to prove itself to be on par with erieye system. The Erieye is one of the first AESA AEW radar. So it is a far more reliable platform.

.
Do you people have any plans to use possible domestic platforms for your AWACs programmes as well? Any projects you have that could act as a domestic platform?

LOL  Yes, as usual you have no idea what you are talking about:

Interferometer arrays, not radar arrays!

The AEW&C is expected to have a 60 degree blind spot in both front and back. IAF can have 360 degree coverage with 3 antenna combination instead of 2 antennas side by side, but, that means pushing the deliveries further. It will be looked at a further date.

I can't count the times anymore that I corrected your false claims. :)

ah! you got me ..you really really got me

For the rest, lets first understand the purpose of an Interferometer antenna array. It serves as highly sensitive signal detection antenna and is used for finding the direction of a threat emitter (angle of arrival estimation). It is an Electronic Support Measure(ESM) that is commonly found on modern AEW&C including the SAAB Erieye notice the location of the interferometer antenna array on the wingtip of the SAAB Erieye. As you can see the interferometer antenna is small enough to fit on the wingtip, our resident genius is once again attempting to deceive by showing you a livefist image listing the ESM antenna location on the Indian Embracer AEW&C.

I do have a question, the scale model is not consistent with the image below, was the conformal array deleted or is it a future enhancement?
