What's new

Lt Gen Asim Munir selected as new army chief

None of this falls under their gambit, this is a political issue. Can we please stop involving the army in everything non military in which their input is not required nor has a positive effect on the government institutions.
My friend all on lighter note , in PA no one is interested in anyone's religious believes. Specially top brass they have to take care of 600k men on duty.

Folks please visit ALL PDM top leaders' accounts and find me any expression of genuine happiness? on President approving it

Obviously..., our good neighbors are taking a great deal of interest in the entire matter.

Why wouldn't they; shared border, several wars, contested land, general adverserial position, recent claims on gilget, army chief is practically the prime minister.

It would be silly if countries on east, west and north didn't follow this closely.

What conclusions they draw will show whether it's a smart analysis or a stupid obsession

is there a president as more pathetic and in significant than ours anywhere in the world?
All our presidents (since after power to quash assemblies) are just paper-stampers
Just ceremonial…..a huge burden on the treasury….enjoying luxuries on taxpayer money

So only some high priest is permissible to speak his mind about a departmental head ?

Veena Malik is also a supposed to be free Pakistani citizen and can express her views ------.
The theory of source credibility states that people are more likely to be persuaded when the source presents itself as credible. This woman’s conduct during her stay in India was so shameless that even jaws of many Indians dropped down. I don’t want to go into further details, and of course I can’t argue whether you want to share tweets of Veena Malik or even tweets of former Pashto movie actress Musarrat Shaheen regarding appointment of new COAS. It’s your comprehension level. Cheers.

waham ka koi illaj nahi .....Nawaz got what he wants ...what else he needs. He already eliminated Arshad Sharif and made attempt on IK life ... he will make another attempt. PTI is Imran Khan ...if he is gone ...then Christmas day for the whole PDM... pher tu allah ha rah jai ga ...otherwise people of Pakistan go back to their caves and wait for another leader ...
Haider bhai don't be do much negative. Its just politics. And Khan is not going anywhere InshaAllah. He is going to stay and would play his dominant role in Pakistani political turf. Aaap loog bay sabree mat dekhayen.

When I said gallows, I meant literally, with not much time wasted for political statements🙂

From a sociopolitical perspective there's a fundamental reason why corruption is a common occurrence in Pakistan. Pakistan is a multi-ethnic state with Islam binding it as a common factor, there's no strong centralised identity. And since Islam is missing for the most part, there's not much motivating factor to work towards prosperity of the state as there's no longer a real connection between people, hence individuals lean towards serving self-interests in the form of corruption when in power. So either you implement a true and honest form of Islam that aligns with the state fundamentals and people will work honestly for the country's prosperity as they believe in it.

The more Islam decreases the more polarised and irrelevant the state becomes because it's just a mishmash of incredibly diverse people. From Pashto speaking Iranics, to Sindhi speaking Indics. It's the only way to strengthen the society.

In my opinion a civillian muhajir government would probably be the best right now, as they wouldn't have any ethnic bias and they gave the most to come to this country, they have the strongest loyalty to the state. Quite educated people too.

Purely ethnic governance is not a good idea. It should all just be on talent and merit. Always remember what this woman said:

So lets put the events in order:

1 - The required summary wasn't being sent to the PM. The temperature reached to a point where some ministers started threatening that the PM doesn't need any summary to go with the appointment. (My assessment: Summary didn't have Lt Gen Amir's name in it. Lt Gen Amir was the first choice of Zardari and second choice of Nawaz Sharif)

2 - Suddenly, one guy comes forward and accuses Nawaz of murder and assassination attempt. Nawaz runs away.

3 - The next day, a PDM's favorite journalist (who happens to be establishment's biggest critic breaks a story that makes international headlines)

4 - Summary comes with 6 names

5 - Imran Khan says he will play within the laws and regulations when summary is forwarded to the President.

6 - PDM (that in my assessment was trying hard for Lt Gen Amir) becomes sure that Imran doesn't like Lt Gen Asim at all. They also remember the story of removal of Lt Gen Asim from DG ISI post. This situation (together with the prospects of a further bonus of possible rift between PTI and the next Army chief from the first day) helps them in selecting Lt Gen Asim right away. All of them then wait for IK to delay the proceedings.

7 - President, after a short consultation with IK, attests the PDM's choice.

Asim Munir does not have "personal" beef with Khan. He climbed military ranks on merit but he can be way too honest in his works for our politicians to be comfortable with. This is better in fact: Khan should work with people who can guide him and correct him.

Our national security is compromised? Dude? Asim has served on some of the most important posts of the military including DG-MI and DG-ISI. There is nothing shady about his works in these posts and otherwise. Simply Look at the FATE of those officers who were actually found to be working for CIA in personal capacity, and not in institutional capacity which is the correct approach.

Every country has external challenges and Pakistan is not an exception to this norm. Now, nobody on the post of COAS will be willing to pick a fight with US anyways. Khan has also recently admitted that both US and China are important for Pakistan. This is correct assessment based on economic ground realities of (and opportunities for) Pakistan. Pakistan's chief problems are underdeveloped institutions, prevalence of corruption, lack of national direction, and mismanagement of its commitments to other parties. This is a lengthy debate so I will leave it here.

To keep it on topic, my positions are in following posts:

Oh come on we all know no COAS is selected here without the approval of the US. That's one the reasons khan was removed so they can have uncle Sams boy in the GHQ. And they succeeded. Now uncle sam can take all regional favors from him doesnt matter they are in our national interest or not.
Khan had a beef with asim when he was DG ISI.
