RIYADH – Global security and aerospace leader Lockheed Martin underscored here Saturday its commitment to enhance job creation, technology transfer and capacity building in aerospace and commercial sectors in the Kingdom, in support of the Kingdom’s Vision 2020 and a strong national defense capability.

Speaking at the inauguration of Lockheed Martin Saudi Arabia’s new headquarters in Riyadh, Lockheed Martin Chief Executive Officer and President Marillyn Hewson, said “Saudi Arabia is a strategically important market for our company and today marks a significant step in strengthening our partnership with the Kingdom. We have been supporting the Kingdom for nearly five decades, and are committed to working with our local partners to develop mutually beneficial business opportunities for the future.”
“The United States has a strong strategic partnership with the Kingdom and we are honored to be part of that team. So, we look forward to working closely with our Saudi partners to support the Kingdom’s efforts to create a more technology-focused economy as part of the Kingdom’s Vision 2020. We are focused on developing partnerships that sustain long-term jobs for Saudi people in the security, aerospace and commercial sectors,” she said.
Chief Executive of Lockheed Martin Saudi Arabia Alan Chinoda, speaking at the event, said: “With the opening of our new office in Riyadh, Lockheed Martin Saudi Arabia is clearly strengthening its long term commitment to the Kingdom.”

“We are now better positioned to develop business ventures, strategic initiatives, local partnerships and, most importantly, local talent.
Building on the success of our first industrial collaboration forum in Riyadh last year, we look forward to deepening our friendships in Kingdom and helping to harness the innovation and energy of the Saudi people.”
Lockheed Martin has an active partnership with the King Abdullaziz City for Science and Technology, King Abdullah University for Science and Technology and Al Faisal University in Riyadh.

The partnership is focused on helping the Kingdom respond to the skills challenges of the next decade. Through these partnerships, Lockheed Martin is working to empower Saudi youth through education, knowledge transfer and engagement, bringing tangible long-term benefits to the Kingdom.

Addressing the event, he said “today’s announcement by Lockheed Martin CEO and President is good news for Saudi Arabia. From personal experience, I have seen the benefits world-class companies such as Lockheed Martin can bring to our country, through investment, training of Saudi nationals and sharing of best practices in fields such as research and education.”

Thumbs up for the Miss President of LM !!!

Impressive... she must be quite good to dominate the male world!

At this pace KSA will become a defense industry best. We just have to let time do its thing.

They are there for saudi money.
So are selex galeleo and Eurofighter manufacturers.
But the question is what will KSA get from this?

You have an image of Saudi Arabia which is very conservative.

Most modern cities of the world are found in Saudi Arabia, best of world's technology is available in Saudi Arabia, not only in military but also civil technologies.
People learn from it and gain from it, not limited to Saudis but to Pakistanis and Indians as well.
I my self came across worlds latest technologies in my field, while living in Saudi Arabia and profited from it and was not alone Pakistani.. there were others too.

Saudi industry is worlds leading.. and are exporting to US and Europe, on top it is an open market where all world compete on Saudi standards.

I hope, Pakistani engineers can make there way to LM Saudi.

Technology sharing, it is in the thread title.

Yes i can read the thread title.
But what sort of sharing?
Are they setting up manufacturing lines,R&D facsilities in KSA with majority saudi employees?

They are providing higher education training and Technology Transfer to Saudi research centers. We already have the R&D facilities we only need tech transfer for them to work on and training for Saudi students to man them. Hence is why Dr.Hatin Behairy is present in the ceremony.

And quite frankly it is 1000 times better than them setting up manufacturing lines because then we will create our own IPs from their tech.

I wish all the best to KSA in their effort to industrilise. But US don't have a good history of technology sharing with others barring UK & Israel.

Technology sharing, it is in the thread title.

How much? How much will U be able to milk out of Lockheed? Better go for acquiring struggling companies in spain, portugal & greece along with bankrupt heavy industries in E.europe IMO.

We are already doing that. Buying shares in Spanish, Italian and Swedish defense companies. And Lockheed surely is giving an attractive offer, after all, KSA is a very lucrative market and if we made one thing clear innthe past few years is that the ones who give the most tech to us, get the most money. So basically companies are racing to throw their tech at us in exchange for defense deals. This fact alone makes me comfortable with any deal we make no matter how expensive it may look.

Some stuffs can not be bought with even money. Critical components won't be shared. For that KSA would have to go for JV with others along with indigenous R&D. Also dealing with US, will limit your option of trying to reverse engineer.
