Lca Tejas SP1 - SP10 in pictures

Since nobody realises this. Tejas is less about building an aircraft. It's about building the infrastructure to build aircrafts.

The learning and knowledge and successes and failures and operstions of Tejas will only help in the future to make more modern jets. Rome wasn't built in a day .

In another word, LCA is a failed plane. But the project is successful. Like Indian optimism.:enjoy:

This is brilliant post and absolutely on the spot you deserve a positive rating, Well done @RaGotimaar

All Indian posters here are trying to whitewash this obsolete excuse of a fighter (first belated flight 2001), when their Airforce won't place any confidence in this product. In simple American English, it's called a DUD.

Meaning something that "fails badly or is totally ineffectual". DRDO was totally out of it's element in developing this fighter. The last great Indian DUD was a MARUT - which, although designed by Kurt Tank of Focke Wulf fame, died a premature death too. No prize for making guesses. India remains the 'paradise of chori' in spite of Sanghis trying to paint it as an advanced economy.

Then, as now, the problem was the same.
  • Lack of commitment for Indian politicians to developing indigenous capability in aerospace manufacture, which does not help their pockets percentage wise.
  • More importance given to lining politicians' and defense chiefs' pockets using 'phoren' equipment purchases, witness BOFORS and other expensive scams
  • In spite of the Americans building HAL in the 1940's to repair and refurbish USAAF transports, (C46s, C47s and C119s) and gifting HAL (spoon-feeding an Aviation Industry) to India in ready to go form, the proven capability of Indians to eff-up a ready-made-thing continues. Even compared to the equivalent efforts in Pakistan and Indonesia, the performance of HAL (and DRDO) is dismal in this area.
Witness the foreign made components used in the LCA project, this is one third of the list (even fuel cap is imported)....

Ahhh, the usual suspects.
Aircraft production is a bit different in India, you have to contend with both bureaucracies of both the central government and the IAF to establish something before you get the OK signal, seeing as how they shill for "phoren maal" regardless of how good the local product is the local product usually recieves continuous tongue lashings from all sides, which often gives detractors like you the ammunition to project your deep seated confirmation biases.
But rest assured, Tejas was inducted into the IAF in 2016 and there are 10 Tejas in service with the IAF as of now SP-10 being inducted a month or 2 back, and it will continue to be inducted regardless of you lots' contempt.

IAF no be confident.......?

Oh lookie here HAL's performance is so dismal that Malaysia wants HAL to build parts for its Su-30s.

I get it, putting up a long list makes it look like it's really scandalous, but if we put things into perspective your rhetoric falls flat in its face.
What you have copy pasted are the list of LRUs which are getting indigenized in large numbers every year, and unsurprisingly you chose to exclude certain things.

From the link you copy pasted:

"There are 358 LRU's (Components) in the Tejas aircraft, out of which 53% of total LRU's are indigenously developed with in India. In view to reduce the remaining 47% of the import
LRU's, ADA has initiated the Indigenous development programme for indigenization of the import LRU's."

No he has a point and absolutely on the spot, LCA is their first attempt to built a indigenous Jet, it takes time to Indian aerospace industry is being matured @faithfulguy be neutral @faithfulguy

Once a country set out to build an airplane, it will gain the experience. Whether successful or failed miserably. In the case with LCA, it’s a catastrophic debacle. Don’t fall for the line such as “It’s the effort that count” or “It’s not if we win or lose, but we try”. Those statements are for people that can’t get it accomplished. So they spin it around and praise the effort. Don’t fall for that spin.

Their first attempt, there next project (AMCA) is more indigenous content on it you have to honor LCA efforts @faithfulguy

India invested and listed billions and still it cannot be operational yet i smell corruption to keep it alive still after decades of wasting money better for IAF to shut down this white elephant DRDO HAL are not capable of manufacturing jets yet after help from US israel better invest in new jets

The production rate is currently 8 per year this year

12 PER year next as the second factory starts production

By 2020 it will 16 tejas each year from 2 factories.

India will have 40 tejas mark 1 by 2020-21

And further 83 more by 2027 of the AESA equipped mark 1a

The Tejas is replacing 125 mig21 bisons this project will be done by 2026-2027

is it really possible to manufacture 125 jets by 2027 with 10 operational as of September 2018?

110-115 jets in 8 years?

By 2020, production will hit 24+ mark... only a regime change can change it... just a year back IAF was criticizing the Tejas but a good rap on knuckles by PM and RM to top brass of IAF changed the things... It was clearly told to them that they have to adopt this jet... and message was also sent down to IAF HQ to plan accordingly...

HAL is in process of IDENTIFYING AND SELECTING more private sector partners to SPEED UP the production rate of Tejas... Plus, the defense manufacturing corridors in UP and Tamilnadu will play a major role in near future...

@Storm Force as per a very recent meeting between IAF and HAL officials, HAL will include all the enhancements and upgrades once IAF will give a go ahead... as per the understanding of my source, that means, only those which are under production will immune to any change... Once the overhauling would be due for Mk1, these jets would be upgraded with the latest technology available...
Also, NAL and HAL are working on a new fighter jet (you can say tejas MK-2) and IITs are helping in some serious way...

India invested and listed billions and still it cannot be operational yet i smell corruption to keep it alive still after decades of wasting money better for IAF to shut down this white elephant DRDO HAL are not capable of manufacturing jets yet after help from US israel better invest in new jets

You should be happy that INDIA is WASTING money in DRDO and HAL... the more we WASTE, the more our economy will suffer...

By the way, Tejas is going to be the milestone for homegrown systems of Indian Air Force...

Notice the canards... which are lacking on tejas

Unless u add them ... it's an obsolete design...

By your logic, two of the best fighter jets are obsolete... JF-17 and F-16 :buba_phone::closed:

even mig 21 is still a formidable fighter... that does not mean that u continue with same design when there are better options available...

If canards are so bad then why all recently designed delta wing fighters by 3 different countries have them? Just caz tejas does not have cannards does not make them root of all evil..

Delta wings have progressed from without canards (60 - 80) to with cannards (2000 onwards)

Tejas is following old design ... that's all...
Why is that so difficult to accept??

So you want to say that Tejas is a newly designed jet... you should clear your mind, either it is a LONG DELAYED project started in 90s or a new project based on OLD DESIGN...

I LOVE THE FACT that despite the long long delay THE TEJAS comes with technology and capability thst is still not ready in JF17 block 2 despite the PAF having 100 planes

ie
Full HMD/HOBS ability with Dash 5 helmets and Python 5 missles
Refuelling ability from mark one
Choice of BVRS including Astra Derby & R77
very low RCS design
lightening pod for night and day operations

The IAF are getting a full battle ready platform

I think the words of my friend who is a in IAF sums up the debate...

While some people feel proud of travelling in a borrowed Maruti-800... some don't feel satisfied by a Honda City and want an Audi or Merc for day to day commute...

I love how the Pakistanis say Shut this project down. It's failed....

Then they will say you brought block ,70.f16 it's waste of billions for old jet. By the way their forty year falcons are rated world class.

If we buy more rafales they shout you getting ripped off at two hundred million each.

If we induct pak fa it's not stealthy enough.

I think unless we buy the thunder which is a forty year old alloy built cheap fighter with no Hms or hobs missile in sight nothing will Be right

And if we are able to build/achieve something really good, likes of Chandrayaan/Mangalyaan.
you have wrong priorities when 95 percent of your population live on street and are hungry and doesn't have toilet.

I didn't know aircrafts that are debacles end up getting inducted into an airforce with 2 functioning production lines while a 3rd is being built as we speak.

Yeah, we get it, you have been brainwashed into thinking otherwise and it feels good deluding yourself that Indians can't R&D Tejas but we all know what happens next.

Just like how a few years ago you lot were all salty about Tejas' progression and said it will never get the IOC and then it got it; then some of you said that we don't have the balls to fly it an airshow, then we did; again you lot said IAF will never induct it, then we did that as well. Tejas will be inducted in large numbers and there's nothing you can do to change that.

@Storm Force is saying that current production is 8 jets per year, and you are saying by 2020 that will be 24+ jets per year. did IAF and IN really accept tejas as their fighter or they are applying wait and see or might they crash another su-30 to keep pressure on govt. to allow them to buy more foreign jets..

and by the way what is RM?

Trust me, I'm not jealous of India and LCA. I pity India. It's a failed project that goes into production that should be axed ASAP. Even as of now, the right decision to do is to cancel it. Why? Because India is buying it only out of pride. India is too prideful to accept failure.
