Hi Guys,

I open this thread to discuss the capability of LCA Tejas MK 1 Vs Saab Gripen C/D.

Honorable members may post their views. Pl take care that you do not compare Gripen NG with Tejas MK 1. We shall do that when full specification of MK2 is out.

Pl do not compare JF 17 with either of these aircraft because we already know the outcome.

Pl do not troll and let the thread to remain clean.

Let us discuss.

Grippen is capable to take off with more weight,more speed(Mach 2 against 1.8),more ferry range,and short take off and landing capability,which enables it to take off from and land even in highway if needed.most probably Grippen's radar is advanced than Tejas'.

Actually it should have because it uses CANARD design BUT:

I have seen Video of Grippen C/D taking off in 14 second. Tejas does it with at least 3.5 to 4 tons in 12 second.

Video July 13 Trials (With 2 x 500 KG bomb and 2 fuel tank and AAM). I do not know about speed.

How?

Both Plane uses same capacity fuel tank. 2468 KG of Tejas against almost same of Grippen with same engine GE 404 IN 6. Tejas being light must have fuel efficiency advantage.

No Video seen in which Grippen (C/D) takes off in less than 11 to 12 second like LCA Tejas does it in Iron fist Video with a high load. Yes, in Landing, I have seen Gripen landing on short runway compare to Tejas.

Nope ELTA 2032 is a batter Radar with 10.5 KWA power compare to PS 05A Radar with 8.5KWA.

Pakistans contribution in JF - 17 is 58%, china has many other big aircrafts and they are making 5th gen aircrafts, they dont really need JF - 17, it was a Pakistani Program made with China's Help. JF - 17 is already operational with wide range of missiles and cruise missiles.

Could you ,in short explain how you arrived at that figure 58%? The engine , radar, most avionics , evn the ejection seat is not of pak origin.
Every country needs a workhorse aircraft. The hi-lo mix.
PLAAF has its share of old soviet leagcy fighters that need to replaced with something that is "cost effective" and need not the latest and the greatest. So its not a question of Big or small here. They evaluated the same and deemed it is still being done.
Yes JF 17 is definitely operating with most of its payload it is designed to carry

They don't even know the future of Tejas yet compare it to world class fighter .... If Tejas was so capable ever, IAF would have inducted it long ago. 20+ years and still on trials and tests and now they are looking at MK2 to turn out to be something better that old one. If we give IAF option to pick Gripen C/D over Tejas then everybody knows what their decision would be.

Just see and enjoy how Top class fighter loosing the battle with a struggling aircraft here.

well brother the thing is JF17 is the ultimate PAF can lay there hands on right now they cant buy forget rejcting any good 4th gen fighter from russia or west while tejas is not more than a gap filler or say "goal keeper" for us if we compare south asian air warfare to a game of socer then its like

Tejas only gets the Derby and the Astra,both are medium range BVRAAM's and not the R77.
Gripen gets the Meteor,IIRC.
So a small range disadvantage.
I don't see the Tejas carrying CM's in the future and probably will be limited to Free fall guided/unguided munitions for A2G.
Gripen definitely has a better weapons package.
Gripen is more agile(Canards plus some reports of drag issues with the Tejas).
Tejas does not have an integrated EW suite(The PV 1 is the testbed for the same).
Radar,on paper looks good but an old report which mentions that it's full potential couldn't be realized due to nose cone material interference,is worrying.

Even if JF-17 is the constable .... Tejas couldn't even make it to the BUS.
Poor Tejas who's left behind on the road says that I am the front seat passenger with Gripen.
