Latest count: China has 1.341 billion people

Preliminary statistics showed China had 1.341 billion people at the end of 2010, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Monday.

The figure is compared with 1.335 billion at the end of 2009 and 1.328 billion at the end of 2008.

China is scheduled to release the final count in April, which is based on the country's sixth national population census, the NBS said in a statistics bulletin on China's national economy and social development for the year of 2010.

The population of China's farmer-turned workers increased 5.4 percent year on year to 242.23 million at the end of last year, while the number of rural workers working outside their hometowns rose 5.5 percent from 2009 to top 153.35 million, the NBS said.

Despite the increase in the number of rural workers, labor shortages have recently been felt in many of China's manufacturing hubs.

That figure of rural people living below poverty line was 9.09 million less compared with that in 2009.

One child policy saved the Chinese.
That is a huge price. But with the growing Chinese economy, One child policy will be phased out, because we have the ability to feed more people now.

China has done awesome job, I appreciate and admire China in this area. I truly admire China for its achievement in controlling population, one area where India is not that serious. The problem of population is very dangerous as it affects any country more than any other factor.

High population directly related to unemployment and it directly related to low income.
High population means less civic facility for its people. I can feel this in USA, here 911 works well because of low population (compared to India). In India is it impossible to implement 911 because of sheer number of people. These are only some of the factors, I feel anything and everything directly relates to population.

The reason I have stressing the importance of population is to show how important it is to control it.

China chooses to control it by law while India did pretty much nothing, left it on people to implement it. I have strong disagreement with GOI on this, something which is so critical and impacts every single thing in life cannot be left at the mercy of people, a large population of which is illiterate and unable to understand the importance of controlling it. What China did can be criticized by some but for me they should be applauded, as per of governance every decision cannot be populist and especially when a large population is illiterate and not capable of taking right decision. If India would have controlled its population, today it would have been in lot better position. Just think about 20 billion less people in India and see how it feels.

There is no 911 service in India? What happens if you are being robbed?

Even m also following the same policy, will change it after getting married and the ability to feed more people

Well son good luck.... How many are you planning to pitch for India?? A soccer team or a Cricket team with substitutes?? ;)
