NEW DELHI: The US Technological Intelligence Unit has alerted Indian security agencies about a possibility of the Lashkar-e-Taiba carrying out
an airborne attack on the Indian warship INS Viraat. ( Watch )

The aircraft carrier Viraat is currently undergoing repairs at the Cochin shipyard, where its security cover has been beefed up after the alert.

Intelligence reports through surveillance of internet traffic uncovered the Lashkar plot to target Viraat.

"On the 23rd night I noticed on some national channel about threat by aircraft to INS Viraat , which is berthed at Kochi ...No ship can come towards the INS Viraat till about 150 to 200 yards," said VG Markam, Deputy Commandant of CISF in Kochi.

The Navy, the Coast Guard, the CISF and the police, all have swung into action to spruce up security around Viraat, but like many other parts in the country, Kerala's porous coastal line is still a threat to India's lone aircraft carrier.

In a wartime scenario, the INS Viraat can embark up to 18 combat aircraft. Ideally suited for two missions, supporting marine operations and conducting ASW operations, INS Viraat can quite effectively project naval and air power anywhere in the South Asia region.

I still wonder what kind of planes they used when they attacked Sri Lankan govt. forces by air.
On another note, I'd rather have terrorists attack Indian military compounds or infrastructure e.g. these ships or something else, instead of innocent people or civilian structures, same goes for my own country Pakistan, but still, I wish there weren't ANY attacks.
