"Russia is Nigeria with snow"

- Sergey Brin

Apparently Dmitry Medvedev refused to meet with him because he said that:rofl:: “Nigeria With Snow” – Why Medvedev Refuses to Meet With Google’s Sergey Brin « San Francisco Citizen

Sergey Brin is one of the last people you should quote when it comes to promoting Russia LOL

hes a jew so what you except hes a traitor in nature, but his parents got all their education from russia he wouldnt be what he is now without his background. Look also who has invented the material graphene which will change the world

Its personal vehicle, mate. Americans don't just have 1 car, too. Many have 2 cars; its common to have 1 vehicle for everyday use (for work) and another car for family use.
so can japanese afford having 2 cars? Why is it that americans are so rich while japan is so poor?

Painting people with such broad brushes and typecasting is wrong in my opinion. Such as calling all Jews as traitors or all Muslims as crazy fanatics or all Hindus as cowards. This is troll baiting and I respectfully suggest you do not do this in a forum that has such wide viewership. Every human being is different and is born with infinite potential. I personally have a lot of respect for Russian intellectuals and academicians of all backgrounds. The land of Pushkin, Lenin and Solzhenitsyn can do better than descend down to petty bigotry.

More on point - what about graphene?

I'm sure Japanese families can afford three or four cars per family. However the problem lies in parking spot rental which can equal the price of a small car over a few years. In fact as @Nihonjin1051 can confirm, you cannot buy a car without showing proof that you can park it somewhere. Space is at a premium in Japan. Plus the option of excellent public transportation exists unlike most places.

BMW3, Audi A3, Mercerdese A, B, C all are compact cars and are very safe :P

I will respectfully disagree. The Audi A3 has been on sale for at least 5 years here in the US and has been a sales dud only (and only because) it's size (too small to be safe) and form factor (lack of a trunk/boot/dickie). If people are going to spend the money to get a luxury car, they'd rather get a 'proper' one witha three box sedan form factor like the next one up in size (A4). This is also true for the Merc A & B Vs. the C class.

The minimum entry point for a properly engineered (and safe) German luxury car in the US is an Audi A4, the BMW 3 series or the Mercedes C class. Any less than this and you're looking at compromises. And why compromise if you wanna go luxury?

The Japanese luxe brands also know this. That's why Infiniti and Acura don't offer anything smaller. Lexus offered one CT200h - but that is not a huge seller.

The trucks are even bigger now.

Um no...not against a truck (which are all over the place).

I don't think a person living in Europe has any idea of what level of car ownership this country has. Living in SoCal - which IMHO is the car culture capital of the US - I can vouch for this. Every family member needs one car so about two or four. Plus there could be one being worked on in the garage as a 'hobby' restoration project.

It's amusing to see that some wannabe redneck thinks that crap known as Camry, Sonata and Accord is not sold in

Taking a look at the top cars sold in US reveals the days of 5, 6 meter road cruisers are definitely gone. Now it loooks like European top 20! With just somewhat weirder names on rebadged cars. [/quote]

Your abusive troll bait comment notwithstanding - the number of Camrys Sonatas and Accords sold in the US far exceed that sold in Europe. This size car is the minimum size for American families. European families make do with much smaller cars. You can call it crap but I've been to Europe and you're not fooling a lot of people.

Obviously you haven't been to Southern California if you make comments like this. And if you haven't been - then I'm wasting my breath.

And remember I said minimum size. Mercedes E classes are as ubiquitous around here with the largest market for BMW 7 series and Merc S class as common as your VW Jettas and Golfs over there.

Crazy facts about the USA: There's approximately 253,000,000 vehicles registered (2011 year data) The population was 310M.

If we use a small Toyota Corolla as a low ball measure of the average length of a car (4639mm) and then we lined them all up end to end...
1112557.jpg

That's 253M x 4639mm = 1,173,667 km of cars.
The distance to the moon is only 384,000 km
You can go 3 times the distance to the moon.

Ya, but there'a a bunch of compact cars in US list. There's a definite shift from let's say 20 years ago.
I was a kid in the 90's and some magazine my dad was subscribed to was issuing a catalog of all (most) car makers and models yearly, like 400 pages, nice color photos, specs and all. And as far as i remember there were no compact cars on offer from US manufacturers except perhaps Saturn.

I suppose though that with pickup's included the list would look quite differently. And i probably wouldn't have said that it resembles a European one. Although, you should know, some of what you call tiny is actually Corolla/Focus class. Truly tiny are only both Fiat's and Toyota Yaris.

They have been trying to sell the fiat 500 around here - even with lots of marketing tricks they can't move this model out of the showroom to the street. Don't see a lot of these on the road yet. Too small and a 'toy' is what people call it.

Same with yaris. Some car magazine actually recommended people not to buy a Yaris if I remember correctly because of safety reasons. Flimsy piece of you know what.

Ha ha makes sense

I don't think these Europeans have any idea about what car culture means in this country.

Why are you in Germany and not in that great 'Land Of Opportunity', Russia ? HAHAHAHAHA !!!

.
Lada ? Russian car ? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!!!!

Well they were selling the Lada Niva (small SUV) in the Canadian market and it was sort of reliable in cold weather which is its natural environment.

But if Russia wants its Ladas to be commercially successful in the world then it will have to get its act right ( a la Japan):
  1. It has to style it's cars attractively (looks are good as far as I can see here)
  2. The cars have to be priced very competitively (good in this area too)
  3. There has to be excellent after-sales maintenance and support ( question mark...)
  4. There has to be excellent customer analytics to hit the proper targets marketing wise (like what models customers prefer at what price, what they think of the brand)
  5. The cars have to be as reliable as an anvil - period.
  6. Not following these principles will result in the Yugo debacle which were sold through Kmart and had a disastrous sales record in this country. This is exactly why indian and Chinese brands have feared entering the US market.
