That car model shown above (2014 Nissan Sentra) was a very popular economy car sold in the United States some fifteen years ago, It was not this same model of course. It was so reliable that Nissan kept making them and it diluted the value of the Nissan brand. Later - because the average American got way fatter, they could not fit themselves and all their pudgy kids inside this car and the model above this in size (the Altima) got very popular as a result.

So now you know why Nissan Altima, Toyota Camry, Hyundai Sonata and Honda Accord are the largest sellers in US and that is why they are all made in US factories now. And Europe has to make do with Corollas, Civics, Hyundai i30's and VW Golfs.

The Sentra is a small car. It is considered an entry-level "woman's car" in the US. Typically women are shorter than men. My wife had one. In order for me to sit in it without my knees bent up into the dashboard I had to push the seat almost all the way back. Nobody could sit in the rear seat behind me. It doesn't have anything to do with being fat.

Now it looks like European top 20! With just somewhat weirder names on rebadged cars.

Ya, but there'a a bunch of compact cars in US list. There's a definite shift from let's say 20 years ago.
I was a kid in the 90's and some magazine my dad was subscribed to was issuing a catalog of all (most) car makers and models yearly, like 400 pages, nice color photos, specs and all. And as far as i remember there were no compact cars on offer from US manufacturers except perhaps Saturn.

I suppose though that with pickup's included the list would look quite differently. And i probably wouldn't have said that it resembles a European one. Although, you should know, some of what you call tiny is actually Corolla/Focus class. Truly tiny are only both Fiat's and Toyota Yaris.
