Kuwait gives the green light to buy 40 F-18 fighters instead of 24

"Al-Rai" learned that the competent Kuwaiti authorities informed the American authorities yesterday that they gave the green light to proceed with the purchase of the F-18 fighter jets. The specialized military committees will follow up on the size, Kuwait's need and the agreements attached to it for maintenance, training and spare parts.

"Al-Rai" said in a statement that Kuwait had asked for the expansion of the contract to 40 F / E-18E and F / E-18F fighter planes and equipment worth more than $10 billion, The first deal for 24 fighter jets was worth $3 billion.

Take a minute... and do the math... How much all of them in the area put in Defence in those past decade... and when you find it... Just ask yourself what indegenous dfence industry they could have build...

No need to search , here the answer... they could have been 2-3 times ahead of Turkey defence industry... at least in amount spend...

That's what you get... when you have too much money... you forgot to use your brain wisely... So Anyone running behinf gas/oil field... just stop... it's a cancer for your own futures... Just stick with what you have, sacrifice more to get it and grow stronger...

Kuwait is a small country F-18 and Typhoons are more than enough.. F-15s would have been good too but it needs new infrastructure, training and support, unlike the already existing same things for the F-18 that can be built on and modernized.. And one should look at the complete picture of the GCC countries..F-16, F-15, F-18, Mirage-2K-9, Tornado, typhoon, Rafale and even SU-35 is coming, add to it the F-35 that is being negotiated..

TN don't have any... the little they have could only fuel 2 oil pump station...
Even the gas field that is btw Italy and Tunisia... is contested...since Italy want to rewrite the sea border... and incorporate it inside hers... but to change it...you need Libya to accept and it's something Libya is willing to accept... thanks to Italy "foot" in Libya and his Influence...

So In The End..let's them take it... Tunisians lived without it since the beginning... it's not like their life changed...

Ressources is GOOD but with a Democracy or a gov who is willing to work for his citizen...whatever it's "Legal" tendencies...

To be honest, although Italy does have a foot in Libya, I don't really think that Libya could choose to give it to Italy publicly. If they do the entire government would fall. We really have a big mistrust with those Italians.

I couldn't really find anything on the web about the gas fields, but it might well be for the better. Economic hardship is sure to sprout some innovation, and the better entrenched the democracy is in Tunisia, the better the long-term future. To be honest, it is better to lose some natural resources than to come back to having thieves rule over the country again.

That's a crazy jump in price from $3 billion for 24 aircraft to more than $10 billion for 40!? Who did the math for this, a 3rd grader?!

Italy is really shady, in my opinion. They appear to be really peaceful, but they have two aircraft carriers and the diplomatic ability to free hostages of Al Shabab. Nothing peaceful gives you this kind of diplomatic ability.

Absolutely. It sounds insane that they would have a say in the matter. This would be like taking one's livelihood, a big no-no.

Libya is the one with less problem since they have Gas fields near her shore... something TN/and IT do not...
Then Why bringing Libya in that equation if it's onlyu TN and IT...? it's simple... all 3 borders connect at this point (What a coincidence btw...) and To seal official border and therefore gas pumping... you need all 3 to be "ok" in the partition...

TN has no leverage to make the balance tilt her way... Italy is stronger in that matter and Libya will play in where her influence lie... and right now... I'm pretty sure, they gonna choose Italy.

It's simple game of realpolitik... and TN lose it...

I thought the maritime border is pretty clear, no?

I think the issue is the line of demarcation for the EEZ and the blocks within. All that will need to be decided by the international maritime border committee before anything happens and it should. To the simpleton, it doesn't seem like Sicily comes anywhere near the Tunisian and Libyan lines but there's a lack of maps showing the EEZ for Tunisia/Libya/Italy. This is the closest I could find.

Don't you think that those three islands are a bit far into Tunisian territory? They seem a bit shady, to begin with, being suspiciously close to the oil fields. I would suggest just drilling wherever we like, and then when the Italians object, give them the finger.

We may see in the coming months how this plays out. I'm pretty sure that if it is referred to an international court, it will rule in favour of Tunisia. International courts have a tendency to be fair in this kind of stuff.

Italy can offer x1000 more to Libya than Tunisia can ever do...and they already begun to move... whatever by Military help or loans etc.. Even thou' TN helped a lot of Libyans till this day after the revo... (2Mil took refuge in this past 6 years, with 1+Mil living in TN) it's somthing that bear no weight when it comes to their own gain...

Ppl could feel otherway when it come to this matter... Politics do not... it's everyone for himself...
And if Libya move could put relationship btw the two countries in bad weather... it' snot like Tunisia can do anything about it... Since If Libya is back on track they could sustain whatever they want from abroad with their Oil/Gas money...
