Satisfaction of both sides? Really?

A simple tremor in Dam area and half of population gone.

Would you say the same if it was threatening "your" state.

Or are these words of convenience?

The water is critical to people on both sides one way or the other. So yes, all the outstanding issues should be re-negotiated to the mutual benefit/satisfaction of both sides.

No body stands to gain by the rhetoric coming from both sides. Sanity has to prevail.

Sanity is building newer one. Its plain and simple.

The mere factor that single drop of water doesnt belong to TN and yet kerala wiling to give is a negotiation.

Its time Kerala moves to to take measures to guarantee people's safety and ignore the political rants from across the border .

Decreasing water level to 120 is starter.

Kerala has a legal/constitutional obligation to comply with the Agreement of 1970. It is not as simple as you people think it to be.

The thing is it is not mere rants, but just demands for Kerala to comply with its legal obligations. And violating it is fraught with its own consequences.

Decreasing water level to 120 is starter.

That would be contempt of court.

Sorry its a matter of life and death.

TN and court should Go "F" themselves.

If any Mishap occur who will take the responsibility.........TN government or Supreme Court...............or Kerala Government......

Earlier some smart guy even suggested that a film based on a matter which is under judicial consideration or trial would be contempt of court. How more ignorant, naive and lame can one get!!

Don't mislead people here. :disagree:

Everything from the price to quantum can be re-negotiated to the mutual satisfaction of both sides. We only demand the 1970 Agreement be complied with in the sense, the control will be with us.

The British-Travancore agreement was a mistake and validation of that agreement in 1970 by our CM was an even greater mistake. The dam is inside our territory and the control should rest with us. We don't want to deny water to TN but at the same time we don't want someone else controlling our natural resources and we should get proper royalty for our natural resources. You are saying that the TN is ready to give proper royalty, but where were you for the last 64 years when you were giving pittance for our water.

Sensationalism, not borne out of facts.

Mullaperiyar dam was made in the 19th century when Dam Construction was still in its infancy. No proper survey was made before the construction of the dam. The chief enginner who made this dam gave only 50-60 years life and last february the dam crossed 116 years. I am a not a civil engineer but this are the things that I learned about the dam:

1. The dam was made when no modern technology was available for hydrographic survey and earthquake detection.

2. The dam is made of lime-surky mortar, not concrete. So the life of the dam is very short when compared to concrete dams.

3. The dam is losing some 30 tons of surky yearlly leading to its weakening.

4. The modern concrete dams is made in different individual blocks with expansion and contraction joints in b/n. So in a concrete dam the cracks that appear in one place will not spread to other parts quickly. While Mullaperiyar dam is made as a single block. So cracks will easily spread to other parts easily leading to the failure of the dam.

Agreed. Both TN and Courts are playing with us. As Sunny Paji said in one film ,all we are getting is "Tareek par tareekh, Tareekh par tareekh...Magar Insaf nahi Mila".

First it does not make sense blaming TN for your politician's mistakes.

Secondly if you do not bargain with a shopkeeper for a cheaper price you are to be faulted , not the shop keeper for not reducing the price without you asking.

More sensationalism.

He alleged Kerala had been consistently floating concocted stories with an ulterior motive to nullify the 999-year lease TN enjoyed, even after the Supreme Court upheld a British period agreement guaranteeing rights to the state.

“In the worst case of collapse of the dam, the gushing water will not wash away thousands in Idukki district. The fact is the water straightaway goes to the Idukki dam constructed by Kerala Electricity Board for hydropower generation 50 km from Mullaiperiyar. The Idukki dam’s storage capacity (70.5 TMC ft) is seven times that of Mullaiperiyar,” reasoned Mr Veerappan.

TN water experts have been accusing Kerala of creating panic with two hidden agenda. First, to break the lease agreement under which TN owns 8,000 acres of the dam site and the other is to ensure adequate storage at Idukki for more power generation.

Your Govt did a stupid mistake in 1970 and has hence been trying various tricks to create a mass hysteria to break out of it.

So go ahead, give your best shot. Let's see who has the last laugh.

It can be rectified without violating the Agreement he signed with other state.

Other states can't be held responsible for his mistakes.
