Why does Congress have to be a family run outfit? Is there nobody else in India apart from the Gandhis who can head Congress?

Congress exists because of Nehru Dynasty.

But is it about keeping everything together, or re-invent themselfs? Without any bias, it's obvious that many of the protest voters, that just wanted to punish the congress this time, will re-think next time. But the Congress need something to make themselfs interesting to get them back too. The Rahul factor, not only as a Gandhi, but also sold to appeal the younger generation failed and he is by far not young anymore either. So they can't simply keep the same strategy for the next elections.
Even in this elections, the results could had been "better", with Priyanka as the lead figure and a different strategy:

- higher appeal to women
- focus on rape issues and women safty (issues the whole nation worried about for months)
- PR profile geared to her as the next Indira (her strong replies to Modi already pushed her in that direction, although it was merely based on replies to the media, than a real campaign strategy)
- the simple fact that it would be harder for BJP to attack her as a woman, than to attack Rahul or other male candidates
- the fact that she wasn't part of UPA, therefor would leave less space for attacks based on the mistakes of the recent years

So purely from a campaign tactics point of view, they could had done much better, especially if she had agreed to lead and as long as she don't want to take more responsibility, she won't play a role in future plans either, so Congress needs other solutions too and not only the same old Rahul plan.

The biggest blunder the Congress did was to shield Rahul baba for ten long years behind his mama's petticoat. He should have been given greater responsibility like making him a minister etc so he could gain experience and the confidence of the public at large. He wasn't even allowed to speak in parliament!!

And can you compare him to Modi? Would you have or will vote for R Gandhi in the next elections? And what experience has Priyanka Vadra have to lead this country? Except for that lame smile and a fair complexion, what else does she have?.......Oh yeah, she has that Vadra fellow of course, who became a multi billionaire within two short years! Even Donald Trump couldn't trump that!!

Not for this election, but for the next it could even with Priyanka, since many Congress officials want internal elections about leading positions and not that certain people will simply chosen. So if Priyanka would be elected by the party, in competition to other possible candidates (which the Congress have, not all of them are corrupt or stupid), it would be a clear change.

Exactly! I think India as a whole would have a better idea if he can or even want to be a minister in a leading position, by judging his work in a ministry over a certain time. UPA 2 would had been the perfect chance for him to start creating his own profile, which he missed and why he will be reduced to the name only, because we simply don't know more about him.

And can you compare him to Modi? Would you have or will vote for R Gandhi in the next elections? And what experience has Priyanka Vadra have to lead this country?

I can't since I don't know too much about Modi's past work, I just tried to follow the elections and the party politics around it, to get a better understanding about Indian politics, therefor can only judge their caimpaign policies.

I had this discussion with other members earlier too, but wrt what qualified Antony to be a defence minister. The same members today actually must raise the same questions about Smriti Irani and here qualification for the HRD ministry as well, although I don't expect that to happen.
My point is, that it doesn't matter what qualification you had before you become a minister, if you were elected, you have to prove your worth with your work, no matter which ministry you hold. Modi is actually proving this, by giving single ministers several ministries at once, even unrelated once.

Can.... May be one or 2 pockets of kerala, May be, Trivandrum Kasargode and Palakkad...... other districts no chance.... In Kerala BJP lacks leadership (local) and there are 2 factions of it.....

New Delhi: The Congress on Thursday suspended its senior leader TH Mustafa for his anti-Rahul Gandhi statements.

Blaming Rahul Gandhi for the party's electoral reverses in the Lok Sabha election, Mustafa on Wednesday termed the Congress vice president a 'joker' and demanded he be removed from his posts if he does not step down voluntarily.

TH Mustafa, a former minister, also demanded Rahul's sister Priyanka Gandhi be made the new party chief.

Addressing reporters in Kochi, Mustafa said that Rahul Gandhi should quit from his post and if he does not, he should be removed.

"Rahul behaved like a joker and that's the reason why the Congress suffered a major reversal in the Lok Sabha polls. The role of a prime minister is not child's play and the people knew it and handed out the worst defeat to the Congress party.

"He should take responsibility and quit and if not he should be removed and Priyanka Gandhi should be made the new president of the party," he said.

"His (Rahul's) mad style of working using computer and internet and in the company of a group of CWC members who only praise whatever he does has caused this defeat. It's unfortunate that even AK Antony belongs to this group," said Mustafa, a former minister in the K Karunakaran cabinet (1991-95) and five-time legislator, known for openly attacking top leaders of his party.
