KARACHI: An investigation officer of the National Accountability Bureau, Sindh, and a boy were gunned down in Sharfabad area on Saturday night, police said.

New Town SHO Inam Husain Junejo said DSP Agha Jamil was having dinner at a restaurant when armed men on a bike opened fire, leaving him and a woman and her 10-year-old son, Faizan, injured.

The NAB officer and the boy both died in hospital.

NAB spokesperson Qudsia Kadri told Dawn that Agha Jamil had come to the bureau from the police department on deputation around one-and-a-half years ago.

Two MQM activists among seven killed

Two Muttahida Qaumi Movement activists were among seven people killed in the city on Sunday, while two Lyari gangsters were shot dead in raids by law enforcers.

The MQM men, identified as Moin and Fazal Abbas, were shot dead by assailants outside a mobile phone shop in Phase-II of Khuda Ki Basti.

Surjani Town police said Fazal was present at the store when Moin, a resident of New Karachi, came to meet him. They were conversing right outside the store when two men pulled up on a motorcycle and opened fire at them.

“We took them to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital but neither one could survive. They were shot multiple times on their upper torsos. Both victims were MQM workers,” said SHO Basheer Wadho, adding that it was most likely a targeted attack.

Tension gripped the area following the double murder, as party activists and leaders also protested at the hospital. The police said that spent shells had been collected for forensics and investigations were underway.

Three ‘criminals’ killed

Sajid, Imran and Naveed were gunned down, while Bilal and Nawaz Sharif suffered injuries, in an early morning attack at a roadside hotel in Hussainabad.

District Central SSP Noman Siddiqui said all three victims were wanted in several cases reported throughout the district, but their political affiliation remained unclear.

“They were having breakfast at Bismillah Quetta Hotel when four men on two motorcycles arrived and opened direct fire at them. None of them made it alive to the hospital. The two people injured were workers of the hotel who are still under treatment,” said the SSP.

He said 9mm pistols were used in the apparent target killing and that investigations were underway to ascertain the motive.

Trust employee shot dead

In Orangi Town, a man identified as Salim Tariq was shot dead while his colleague, Hanif, was injured in a gun attack in Faqeer Colony.

Mominabad SHO Shahzad Ilyas said the men were residents of the area and worked with the Sahara Trust. “They were out in their area when two men on a motorcycle targeted them at close range. They were taken to the ASH, where Salim passed away and Hanif remains under treatment.”

Man slain by brother

Najeebullah Khan, 42, was murdered by his elder brother at his residence in the Toori Bangash area of Orangi Town.

SHO Najeebullah said the victim, a labourer, and his brother, Murtaza, had an argument over a plot of land which led to the murder. “Their argument turned into a brawl and the killer slit his brother’s throat with a knife. He fled immediately but we were able to find and arrest.”

Two ‘gangsters’ killed

The Chakiwara police claimed to have shot dead two Lyari gangsters in an encounter in the Rangiwara area.

SHO Haq Nawaz said a raid was conducted at a hideout, after which two men were arrested in an injured condition. “The criminals were identified as Zakir alias David and Aziz alias Channi. They were taken to the Civil Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival,” said the cop.

merey bhai MQM has no major bhatta khors, MQM's welfare trust KKF(khidmat khalq foundation) collects fitra once in a year only and that is standard donation, which has nothing got to do with bhatta

MQM has no central leadership which operates bhatta menace like aman committee, sunni tehreek, ANP etc

the major bhatta in the city is taken by police waalas even KMC takes bhatta which other wise scares people through using authority and we all know how sindhis control these sindh police and KMC etc, there is no merit in these organisations just like any other govt organisation
how come every body in Pakistan say bhatta khoeri is prevalent in MQM and you say not, so who is right, and who is wrong, wasey bhi kehtey hain keh, zuban e khalaq ko naqara e khuda samjho.

MQM just has chanday ki parchi which is worth 70 each; but number of slips allocated is dependent upon sweet will of the person who is collecting this chanda. At time one off demand of couple of thousand also come in. Difference is MQM does it in official way and gang war does it the criminal way. And yes, gangs rate is much higher then MQM. It would not be wrong to say that MQM has the lowest rate.

Thats not Bhatta, thats Fitra. The Bhatta parchi comes as anonymous as the other gangs do. Also they come in packs to ask for money or "Biryani Daigh" for Milads and other such functions. When asked where and when this function is they get visibly agitated and that's when the name dropping starts among other things. However a lot of these issues can be solved by going to the unit office for the area where they say these people will be dealt with. However they still roam around the area even after multiple complaints. They just leave the people alone that stand up against them.

Usage of this so called FITRA as I know of, does not qualify for this contribution to be called as Fitra. Secondly, if MQM does not support this and it not forceful. Then they should make sure that such free electrons are restricted to operate in city. There is not doubt that MQM has units in every area, which has full information of what is going on in their area. How can such individuals roam around freely without their consent. They certainly say that they deal with such people but infact they support them because, they not only collect the funds for the organisation but also for the unit hierarchy as well.

Either way, I was just explaining how those two are different from personal interactions with them. Its still better than dealing with some other terror gangs with a more loose command structure.

I do agree to this point LOL.

First of all chanda is not demanded by chits, it is up to the people's good will, than if those handing the chits are doing HANKY PANKY AND mqm KNOWS IT THAN IT SHOULD TAKE A STERN ACTION AGAINST THOSE, AND NOR LEAVE IT TO THEM, UNLESS mqm IS WILLING TO ALLOW THESE THUGS TO COLLECT EXTRA MONEY AS LONG AS THEY GET THEIR SHARE.

This all is very unethical, very non Islamic, and very much against any civilized society.

KARACHI: The paramilitary conducted an early morning raid near the Muttahida Qaumi Movement headquarters Nine Zero and recovered a large amount of weapons and Rangers’ uniforms.

Rangers claim arrest of 'most wanted' hitman with links to MQM
DAWN.COM — UPDATED A DAY AGO

KARACHI: Pakistan Rangers Sindh claimed to have arrested a target killer associated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) during a search operation in Karachi's Azizabad area early Tuesday.

"Mohammad Kashif alias David, who belongs to the MQM, is a most wanted criminal in multiple targeted killing and terrorism incidents," Rangers official Colonel Faisal told media representatives.

He said the operation was carried out on a tip-off close to MQM's Nine Zero headquarters.

A cache of weapons and ammunition, including Kalashnikovs, light machine guns (LMGs) and Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG-7), and Rangers uniforms were recovered during the operation, in which several houses were searched.

The suspect was shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

At a meeting in the Karachi Corps Headquarters earlier this month, army chief Gen Raheel Sharif termed lasting peace in Karachi the “ultimate aim” of the Rangers-led Karachi operation, which was launched over two years ago.

For a little over a year, MQM has been under the spotlight when it comes to the Rangers-led operation. In March 2015, Rangers personnel detained a number of MQM workers, including senior members such as Amir Khan, in a pre-dawn raid on the party's headquarters.

The raid, which prompted a protest by party activists, appeared to have symbolic significance in the Karachi operation that has been underway since October 2013.

Most recently, Rangers arrested MQM Rabita Committee Deputy Convener Shahid Pasha in a raid on his residence last month.
