What's new

Kamorta class corvettes for VPN ?

We need to have 4 aircraft carriers, 20 052D+055 classes, 60 054A class.
About 1/3 of US navy size...

:D definitely, our modernization is quite astonishing but there's still room for improvement.

It probably won't make sense for VN as it has plenty of shipyards to build OPVs anything from 150 ton - 2000 ton.

Actually, I've been feeling that for a while, VN is making a big build up of coast guard vessels right now and they are building quite a few of the DN-2000 class (2500 tons) which is very modern and capable for $50 million.

I've read somewhere that the Japanese ships are 89 million each and I think they are not that big; if its like that, then its not worth it. Have to wait for more reliable info.

What! I heard it's a much smaller class. But anyway, buying Japanese probably makes the most sense since the Philippines desperately need more CG vessels and their local shipyards won't be able to pump them out as quickly as they need them.

One thing that confuses me is that the Kamorta class corvette is a GRSE design while the Sukanya class or Saryu class OPV belongs to GSL.

So I'm not sure who will be designing/building this Vietnamese Kamorta/OPV hybrid?

@RISING SUN said it would be GSL.
GRSE,GSL,MDL,CSL etc all are under the direct control of GoI.
Actually designing of new ships is done by Naval Design Bureau not shipyards. But they can addnecessary input in it.
Typically designs are the property of GoI.

Your are right, Nihonjin San
Even China and Japan has tension for many years, both sides realize the necessity to improve relationship.
It will benefit both side from political and economy side.
Yet our Vietnam friends don`t realize that...

Vietnam is a small nation, compared to the Giant that is China. But it is important to remember that because of their history of being invaded many times by foreigners, and fighting wars with foreigners, they have developed a sense of excessive defensiveness. From their history, they were fighting the Champa people, the Khmers, the Lao, the Siamese, then they fought with the Mongols, then even the Chinese, then the French, then the Japanese, then the Americans. Throughout their history --- it has been defined by constant wars. So it is understandable their national psyche, and as partners (Japan and China are partners with Vietnam), we have to be understanding of that aspect.

But seriously, @hans - sama. No way is it even realistic for China or Vietnam to sacrifice development and regional peace to fight over uninhabitable islands. Sure there may be some natural resources there, but its worth is not equivalent to the $60 Billion worth of Trade between China and Vietnam per annum. Only the foolish right wingers who care not for the overall majority would be as obtuse in thinking.

China is growing, its economy is ballooning. The standard of living for over 800 million Chinese have been elevated from poverty to middle standard now. And its improving every year. A war in the region will lead to regional instability and the 1.4 billion Chinese who's standard of living is just improving will be sacrificed. The same goes for our friends in Vietnam who are just starting to improve.

We must be pragmatic and focus on growth. Afterall, Vietnam is part of the Greater East Asian Family. They are similar to us East Asians. We cannot think of killing our fellow kin.

i thought it was the bizan class, im still confused if its 10 40 meter + 2 bigger ships? or it is jsut 10 40 meter MRRV?

You guys will be receiving 10 Hateruma-Class Patrol Vessels. They're actually being built as we speak. The vessels are 1.3 tonnes , about 1.5 tonnes full load. It will come with the MK44 Bushmaster II 30 mm cannon. This will cruise at 30 knots full speed. And its perfect for Patrol Vehicles.

I believe that these will be inducted into the Philippine Coast Guard.

Thanks, that clarifies it a bit.

Vietnam should get closer to Israel. Which Vietnam is currently already doing. Israelis are reliable partners in defence, and several of the platforms India makes have Israeli components. Making it better, Vietnam-US relations are cooling down a lot.

Some of the platforms which have important Israeli sub components.

As Vietnam gets bold in defence, they will come in handy.
