Kamorta class corvettes for VPN ?

I don't think the lack of substantial help from Japan has anything to do with USA. Its something else, but I'm not clear what.

Amigo, Japan is the #1 largest investor in Vietnam, majority of all direct foreign investments into Vietnam (this is excluding ODA) are from Japan. We're pouring Billions upon Billions of Dollars into Vietnam. No offense to our Indian colleagues, but i don't think the $100 million the Indians are giving you guys in loan compares at all. I mean, we are even giving India $35 Billion in infrastructure development. :azn:

Secondarily, Japan has recently just changed a law that barred Japan to allow exportation of Arms just this year. This July 2014. @Viet and you have every right to be concerned about Japan's commitment, however, it should be pragmatic and inclusive of these logistical and legislative hurdles that had prevented us these years past. As relations with Vietnam and Japan increase , I am confident of more military to military measures will be implemented and will realize.

Lastly, @Viet , you may have already heard that in September 2014, a Ministry of Defense and Foreign Affairs from Japan had invited Government Officials from ASEAN member states to a conference. The topic was on Japan's intent on selling arms to ASEAN member states. All ASEAN member states, this includes Vietnam. It has only been 2 months since this conference took place. Expect significant proceedings to take place in later months.

well, I guess despite all conflicts with China, and all the talks of balance of powers, Japan has no interest of having Vietnam with a strong navy, that can compete with theirs. as far as I know Japan still keeps arms embargo on Vietnam.

Japan is vested in the growth and prosperity of Vietnam, as well as the greater ASEAN Bloc. A strong Vietnamese Navy, Indonesian Navy, Thai Navy, Philippine Navy, Malaysian Navy and Singaporean Navy ensures stability of the region.

Well, well, well, you are correct. But when I see the mood of Ashraf Ghani against India, it is totally depressing. A Northern Alliance man, which India supported him from his childhood, going against India.

Dude .That is the one and only nation in this world having CEO and President :D . Ghani cant go against us that is why created a largest network in there.

Glad to hear that..
When PLAN is booming with advanced warships in high quality and quantity, the India Navy is still struggling with these less advanced ships..
Maybe Pakistan Navy will not be happy to hear that..

Not bad at all, very impressive. The PLAN will not be happy about that.

Why not a strong PLA navy?
It will be the strongest in the region...

approaching 100km then torpedoeing?
that will be a great improvement to the Test-71 torpedo of the Kilo sub, that only has a range of 20km.

It sounds like this torpedo will have some special guidance/sensors.

If it can be integrated into the Kilo, it would be very lethal.

One thing, you talking about Saryu class?

Saryu class is not on sale, it just a patrol vessel with OTO gun, and nothing more.

No, if I read it correctly, @RISING SUN said it will be based on the Sukanya class OPV. If it is, then I would be worried as the Sukanya class are old design like you've said. And these older generation OPV hulls are not designed to have the high survivability standards like corvettes or frigates.

It would be better if it is based on the Kamorta or the newer Saryu class OPV.

Who will buy these Made in India weapon?
When India is still struggling with low tech weapons, China is booming with high tech weapons..

But still China providing weapon system to that neighbour, which pointing that weapon no other but to India. Its become necessary for India, year by year, to start involving in ASEAN, and start equipping them with Indian weaponry. I think for India, SCS is much more important than Afganistan.

.
Two reliable sources already said that it would be a hybrid of OPV/Kamorta class. So it would be much different than normal Saryu OPV.

One thing that confuses me is that the Kamorta class corvette is a GRSE design while the Sukanya class or Saryu class OPV belongs to GSL.

So I'm not sure who will be designing/building this Vietnamese Kamorta/OPV hybrid?

Thank you, its good to hear that. We were talking strictly about military assistance, nothing to do with economic aid or investment. I think what got Vietnam disappointed was those 4 small ships which in the end are of no significance at all, of course something is better than nothing, but there was an issue of expectation, particularly in light of the situation after the oil rig, so in the end it would be better not to have offered those ships.

I think it might also be an untold political issue because of the type of regime in Vietnam, but more time will make things more clear.

One thing that Japan needs to realize is that of all the countries that are in the front line against China in the south china sea, Vietnam is the only one with enough military capability to face china and the will to fight. Philippines and Malaysia don't quite make it on that regard (Philippines because it doesn't have anything and Malaysia because it doesn't have the will to fight) and Indonesia is in a neutral position at this time, so actually, the urgency of the present situation points to Vietnam if you want actual results on the ground.

You are totally correct and that's the part that is also very confusing to me.
