The pods in the pic are developed by AWC, not Indra as i previously thought, likely for escort jamming.. a big development if true.

For self protection, it will carry an ASPJ

Which place of JFT airframe is capable of accommodating a meaningful amount of load while having almost no drag penalty?
In my opinion dorsal spine like that on Mig-21bison,Mig 29SMT and F-16D is more practical since we have seen it on JFT-B.

Can you give an example with a pic since I am new to these matters?of dorsal spine.

Dorsal spine contains avionics,fuel,chaff-flare dispenser system etc.Each fighter manufacturer has chosen this for different usage.In case of Mig-29SMT,JFT-B & Mig-21-93 it is used for fuel.In case of Migs this feature was added to increase fuel capacity+chaff-flare dispenser system.


Fuel tanks do add lot of drag and almost 50% of fuel carried by them is used to overcome that.

JF-17B Dorsal Spine don't carry fuel. Check JF-17B under manufacturing in this video.

What part did JF-17 play on the day of 27th feb skirmish? It's now very clear that F-16 shot down the Mig-21 and allegedly an SU-30 as well. AM shahid lateef is quite an informed person regarding JF-17 and according to his remarks jF-17 played a decent role.....any remarks from senior members?

More likely they have moved something else into that space but dorsal space has been used to compensate for what was lost in making space for second seat.

Edit: Now that I am looking at the pics again, I see a problem and the video is clearly doctored to some degree. Reason being that while the first jet has the correct S.No, 07-101, the other jet does not. There is no 07-201. That jet's actual S.No is 15-201, so while nice, sadly these are not genuine entirely.

Those markings are for Sherdil Movie and are vfx based. Those are not real

They indeed do look sort of CGI or at least capture of real jets flying in a CGI environment.
