Malaysia may consider purchasing Pakistan’s JF-17 aircraft as part of its current fighter replacement program. Malaysian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Dr. Hasrul Sani made the announcement citing the excellent relations both nations currently have in terms of defense cooperation. The sale would also see further increase in the bilateral trade between the two, which currently stands at over $2 billion per annum. Other options currently being considered are the Dassault Rafale, Boeing’s F/A-18 and Lockheed Martin’s F-16V. The interest in the JF-17 comes alongside the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC ) project which will see over $40 billion invested in Pakistan’s infrastructure and economic development. Dr. Sani stated that the whole region would stand to benefit from the CPEC project.

The FC-1/ JF-17 Thunder is a joint Chinese-Pakistani project that aimed to reduce Pakistan’s dependence on western firms for advanced fighters, by fielding a low-cost multi-role lightweight fighter that can host modern electronics and precision-guided weapons. It isn’t a top-tier competitor, but it represents a clear step up from Pakistan’s Chinese MiG-19/21 derivatives and French Mirage III/V fighters. This positioning addresses a budget-conscious, “good enough” performance market segment that the West once dominated, but has nearly abandoned in recent decades.

Pakistan has fielded JF-17s in squadron strength, with more on order and a Block II R&D program nearing completion. India’s competing Tejas fighter is overcoming project delays by looking to foreign component sources, but Pakistan and China remain out front with their offering, even though they began their project much later than India did. Pakistan and China have even set up a joint JF-17 marketing agency to promote export sales, which hasn’t paid off as quickly as they had hoped, but it would be unwise to count them out just yet…

Sir can u predict abt speed of JF17 block-iii currently given frm 1.6 to 1.8 max. Further do speed play any role in air combat.

You already answered your own question, the speed would max out around 1.8 Mach. And speed has different impacts on air combat. What scenario/s are we discussing? If its just going to an enemy post / ship and dropping standoff weapons, it can make a small difference by a couple of minutes (if on full throttle, Mach 1.6 vs. Mach 2). But due to heavy weapons load, you'll burn a LOT of gas and will bleed energy.

In dog fights, those are done at relatively lower airspeed / sub sonic. So not a whole lot of advantage as the high off bore sight missiles do the work for you. And you don't really have to get to your enemy's "six" anymore.

Source was their high commissioner in the pakistan..
source was a Pakistani media outlet "quoting" the high commissioner of Malaysia.

Here you go

"ISLAMABAD — Malaysia's Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein has denied media reports that the country is considering the Sino-Pakistani JF-17 Thunder as part of its Air Force modernization plans. Analysts nevertheless think the JF-17 is on the cusp of export success.

Hussein was responding to a question put to him by Malaysian news media after an interview Malaysia's High Commissioner to Pakistan Dr Hasrul Sani gave the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP). He was reported to have discussed the JF-17 in the context of boosting the wider bilateral relationship."

IIRC the JF-17 Block 1 was equated to F-16 Block40 in terms of capabilities (minus hard points and payload). What would be the comparable F-16 block no for JF-17 Blk 2?

66 JF17 are potentially in service with the PAF in 4 front line squadrons replacing 2 A5III and 2 F7P squadrons

PESHAWAR (Staff Report) – PAF’s Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) has produced as many as 16 JF-17 Thunder jets for Pakistan Air Force in 2015, a statement said on Monday.

According to the statement, CAS Sohail Aman announced that production capability of PAC would further be enhanced up to 24 jets in 2016.

“In 2015 the aeronautical complex also produced the Airborne Warning And Control System (AWACS) in lowest cost and saved up to US$15 million by repairing a warship damaged in a terrorist attack on Kamra complex,” the statement added.

The JF-17 Thunder, which is often mentioned as country’s greatest achievement in aeronautics so far, was originally produced in cooperation with China at local engineering complex.

The JF-17 can deploy diverse ordnance, including air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles, and a 23 mm GSh-23-2 twin-barrel auto-cannon.

75 are in service as reported by Dawn news.
That seems a more likely estimate, as production of the Block-II's began in March 2014. 16 Block-II's have been built in 2015. At least 10 to 12 Block-IIs must have been built in the remaining months of 2014.
