JF-17 Thunder Multirole Fighter [Thread 4]

JFT has no IFR capability yet, so that explanation can't fit. Could it be, that they meant maximum fuel?

~2300Kg internally
2 x ~880Kg
1 x ~640 Kg

=>~4700Kg

Also interesting is the Ferry range of 2037Km

May be. But, it clearly says maximum external stores. May be thats the max wt wings are designed for. Altough, to max load the wing, sacrifice will have to be made on internal fuel load.

Ferry range normally is with external fuel tanks. 2037 km looks low.

Normal Take-off Weight: 9,100kg
Maximum Take-off Weight: 12,700kg
Maximum Thrust 8,700kg (afterburn)
Maximum External Stores: 4,600kg

Take-off and Landing Distance: 380/650m
Max Speed (mach): 1.6
Service ceiling: <16,700m
Ferry range: 2037km
I think their is some mistake here......

Normal take off weight - 9.1 Tonne
{jet with full internal Fuel}

Maximum Take Off Weight - 12.7
{Jet+Fuel+External Load}

That means

Maximum External load - 3.6 Tonne
{12.7 Tonne - 9.1 Tonne}

Finally some updated specs!

Ferry range seems accurate(down to the last km!). The earlier one was so Huge for a light fighter. That is most probably the initial max estimation during development which got carried over to subsequent spec sheets. Also unbelievable since RD-33 family generally has high Specific Fuel consumption.

Nice 1 tonne load increase.

The Maximum thrust given above is the emergency thrust used only during take-off, not the normal afterburner. The Emergency thrust for RD-33Series3/RD-93 is 8700kgf or 19200lbf. The Normal Afterburner thrust is 8300kgf or 18300lbf.

The rest are all the same.

How with max take off weight of 12700 Kg and normal takeoff wt of 9100 kg, external can carry 4600kg?
Normal weight is a loose term. Different countries define "Normal" differently. What you should be looking at is empty weight and maximum take-off weight.

Latest empty weight figure for JF-17 is 6586kgs(14520lb). Maximum is 12,700kgs. So that comes to 12700 - 6586 = 6114kgs. 6114-4600 = 1514.

1# So at take off, you can load 4600kgs of external weapons or external fuel tanks, and fill the internal fuel tank with 1514kgs of fuel.
2# Or you can fill 2300kgs of internal fuel in the fighter(maximum capacity), and then (6114 - 2300 = 3814) add 3814kgs of external ordnance or external fuel tanks.

Normally fighters which wish to carry both of them full will first take off with just(taking JFT as an example) 1514kgs internal fuel and use mid-air refueling to circumvent the MTOW limitation. But JFT isn't mid-air refuel capable. So it can only choose either option 1 or 2.

The Su-30MKK and the Su-30MKI(except the initial 40 MKI batch acquired directly from Irkut), can carry its full external load and full internal fuel at take-off from ground.

CM-400AKG: becomes Pakistan's 'aircraft carrier killer'

Air Commodore Mahmood Khalid:

The CM-400AKG is now part of the operational weapon set of the PAF's JF-17 Thunder multirole fighter. "This is a mature weapon that has been fully tested. It is not conceptual. It is in service,

The CM-400AKG is a very high-speed missile that is very difficult to intercept. It hits the target at Mach 4 or above and its kinetic impact alone is enough to destroy any high-value target, like an aircraft carrier."

this display board is so misleading.
there a interview with pakistan pilot in zhuhai airshow this time.
they asked the pakistan pilot about the max speed (mach) 1.6.
the answer is yes. （mach 1.6 with carry two missiles. does not mention what kind of missile it is)
and they also asked the pilot if the Jf 17 can fly over 1.8 mach. the answer is also yes (depends on the external carry weight)

btw. the most intersting news to jf17 is the new CM 400 AKG air to ground missle. (mach 5.5，900 kilos， according chinese sina TV news.) and it is a ballistic missile.

the worst news for Jf 17 is, the chinese L 15 ( yak 130 level trainer) is open for sale now. and already sold 12 in zhuhai airshow. a new competitor for future selling of Jf17.

L-15 is a trainer which can be used for light attack. JFT is a conventional fighter. For CoIN and anti-narcotics ops the versatility is less of an issue so countries prefer to save funds. But if you're looking at full scale service, then it becomes more of a risk.
