in that case we will need approx 370 aircrafts
150jf-17s+80f-16s(if we get few old ones)+50 odd j-10s(may be only 36 or more than 50)+50 f-7PGs
Remember the Mirage ROSEs. Some of them are upgraded to carry Ra'ad. If the entire fleet of Mirage is retired, those capable of carrying ALCMs would still be in service till the JF-17 order is complete.
even this put us short of the target so their are two possibies
increase in j-10 order
or get more older f-16s
or may be its just rumor we may see further orders on jf-17
PAF might for for more F-16s but a very unwise move if they do. F-16s are legendary fighters but once the US stops the spare parts, all of them would be grounded and be useless scrap which would cost Billions.
in long run i think around 2025 f-7PGs may be replaced by fifth gen aircraft..i am sure PAF will be planning something on paper atleast
The planning on paper is complete. Now time for funds and development which will take years now.
Separate naval air arm is unlikely since pervaiz shamim sahib once said that a limited number of JFTs would be having antiship capabilities.
Well before the PNS Mehran attack, we had a hot thread about PAF trying to go for J-15 for it's navy as separate Naval Air Support. But Thunders placed at nearest Air Base to sea (except for Karachi) can be fitted perfectly if what you are saying is true.
i.e. IAF may allocate 300 out of its 700 units for western borders but not 1000 Units. This, IMHO provides room for comfort for PAF to maintain its current inventory.
Pakistan mustn't take India as it's sole enemy! We still have got Afghanistan and Iran sharing our borders and we mustn't neglect the Western side. Pakistan must make it's Air Force capable to defend the nation. We must not forget our resources are limited and in a state of war the resources would seriously be effected. The only way to survive a war is if China AND Middle East help us financially and in ammunition.. Mustn't count on that. Hence the present resources must be used very wisely and most efficiently. Not forgetting we have a hungry nation behind and the political bastards are stripping the poor out of their skins too. If they are taken care of, PAF and PM could have possibly widened their resources.

You have to understand that Indians are constrained from all sides i.e. China Pakistan Bangladesh and perhaps Srilanka too. With China arming all of its allies with modern weaponry, it is in fact putting more pressure on Indian defence doctrine forcing them to increase spending for staying on par. So even if IAF operates 1000 platforms, it must be noted that IAF's strenght will not be concentrated against one country i.e. IAF may allocate 300 out of its 700 units for western borders but not 1000 Units. This, IMHO provides room for comfort for PAF to maintain its current inventory.

in an indo-pak conflict if there western air command suffers a defeat at PAF hands n loses number of its air crafts they won't worry because they will be having ample reserves n they will be able to fight for a longer time.on the other hand if PAF maintains 350 jets n in case of a wa r loses around 100 of them then PAF will suffer another 71 like situation.PAF will be totally defansive and its support for the army will be drastically reduced.so in my opinion it will not be sensible for the PAF to go against a force of 750 jets comprising of su 30,mirage 2000,mig 29,n probably rafale with only 350 jfts,f16s n j10s. indians will be having a huge edge in technology n in numbers

its not wise to think that in case of war india wouldnt be able to put all of its firepower to us..because no country wants to go to war not even china ...so india will all have all of its resources pointing towards us.
thats why PAF will maintain its doctrine of 1/3 strength to IAF so that using advantage of its geography it can deter indian threat.

well i said it is likly that spearate naval arm is formed due to raising indian threat but even it doesnt a significant number of jf-17 fighters will solely be there for naval forces support just like the mirages are doing now.

separate naval air arm will be wasting of resources.we dont have a very large coastline nor our navy can launch attack to a far flung country with an air craft carrier.pak navy is totally defensive and not very much professional keeping in view their past war record.giving a couple of squadrons to non professional people will be fruitless rather disastrous.so its better that PAF maintains a couple of squadrons of JFTs for naval support and there should be very close cooperation b/w the two forces

Why not a dedicated Naval Air Command under PAF

@ziaulislam.
can u please tell what is the geographical advantage we have?
we have a very marrow belly and indians can strike anywhere they want but oour planes can't penetrate that much deep into indian air space so it seems that we are at a disadvantage rather then advantage.we have smaller area to defend at the same time india has smaller area to attack at.

but lok at the other side too, even we had longer width indian planes would have had no problem entering into our space(su-30 mki, MRCA,all focus on range) but for us it isnt , even short legged jets like jf-17 can easlily penetrate upto all important bases of indai.

anyway this is debatable issue.

in 1971 navy suffered because the PAF refused to give aerial support as it was too busy too counter the enemy...
without naval arm navy is defenseless these days, in case of war PAF will be under tremendous pressure, would it be able to give navy that support..., also PN consists of missiles boats that require airsupport.

remember navy will have to face indian mig29s and LCAs

guys this thread is about JFT not about india-PK war gaming! pl return to JFT discussion.

what for buddy? please dont kid
there are many risks in that like decrement of range , less payload , high costs etc...

Shorter runways, abilty to take off land from air strips
