JF-17 Block-3 -- Updates, News & Discussion

Looks like AESA took up extra space. They had to get rid of a few sensors at the front.

Your approach of using these 2 photos is good. However you are not looking at the correct detail. The radomes the same size or very minimal difference.

If only we can make pilotless JF 17 B3 (X). I mean how many B3 can be procured for one Rafale (3=1)? Each of X is equipped with 2 or 4 Pl-15s. Now imagine sending these 2 or 3 Xs against each Rafale firing Pl-15 at 85% max range. Then simple turn back to evade Meteor while PL-15 are guided by ZDK, 2nd line Xs or powerful J-10CP. Even if our Xs are hit, we will not lose pilots.

A downed Rafale againt even 2 Xs is more valuable for PAF. Even if our 2 Xs go ahead and fire 4 or 8 PL 15s against each Rafale at 50% of max range to ensure kill. It will be a great blow to IAF. @SQ8 is this naive?

What you are referring to is a "loyal wingman" air launched drone, which IIRC China is developing for the J-20.

A simple EMP attack/jamming can render this unmanned JF-17 uncontrollable - that is, unless you can program it to be completely autonomous, something even the US and China are yet to achieve for a small drone, let alone a whole fighter.

You will have to go through the headache of securely communicating with this aircraft too. Iran could hack a US drone and land it, allowing them to reverse engineer it. Imagine if the Indians got their hands on our frontline fighter with some of the best Chinese technology (EW suite, radar, PL-15 etc.) Or imagine if they hacked them and turned them into suicide drones with PL-15s.

Otherwise, you will have to program a computer which is aware of when to turn its radar on or not, how to IFF, which target to lock against all the clutter, which is the best setting to use, how to take off and land, and a whole bunch of other stuff a human does without much fuss. Again, this is a very difficult task and I doubt Pakistan has the resources, knowledge and skills to make a reliable and secure AI this advanced.

This is 6th generation technology and beyond the scope of the JF-17. In fact, the ground clearance isn't even sufficient to carry a RAAD, let alone a whole drone.

However, it is entirely feasible to increase the JF-17's ground clearance and update the software to carry loyal wingman type UAVs. IMO this is what Block-IV will focus on.

Apparently Block 3 seems to have RD93 not RD93MA, which makes sense of 30 order numbers instead of 50,

So later order in black can have new engine

Or you can focus on drones taking out the runways and deny them landing

you are a 100% 4th gen airforce now. @All
Plz give some more detail if possible, because the common understanding is that how could we be a 4th gen Air Force in the presence of Mirage-III and V, plus we still have some F-7 PGs so we may be a full 4th gen Air Force in let say next 3-5 years but as of now we are not fully 4th Gen Air force.

Congradulations, you are a 100% 4th gen airforce now. @All
Its a larger project with multiple derivatives both for FC1, jian10 and NGFA.

Madam, are you saying we are getting a derivative of Jian10? How much does it deviate from the original? Can you give us some specifics?

Whats next in roadmap from china ?

NGFA can be j31/35 or will be project azam

.
IF block 3 is with old RD-93 then is it full fly-by-wire or how it is achieving it with old engine?

You talk in codes, which I prefer, but you should contribute more.

If it was that easy US, France, Russia, and China would already have done that. Those countries are working on the concept and we just entered into the aviation industry and are still learning to crawl and you want us to start competing in 100 meter sprints already

They are used as highly maneuverable aerial targets and they don't fly autonomously they are controlled from the ground just like a drone.
