JF-17 Block-3 -- Updates, News & Discussion

Jeff is its nickname used by the aviation community.

Sorry to say but there's no aviation community to call it jeff. Lest not set a wrong trend about JF-17. It will set a wrong search trend for JF-17. Use of such kind of nicknames speaks volume of our seriousness on the subject. Please be avoided.

Not saying we should go along with it, but when Westerners nick name someone/something, it means they really, really like it. It is interesting to see that the USAF is looking into a 'clean sheet' design for a 4+ gen fighter. What's the likelihood they come up with something like JF-17? The aircraft is making waves, and you should expect a nickname if we don't give it one. Like Viper, Eagle, Falcon for other aircraft. We need to give it a name that is easy to roll off the tongue otherwise Jeff WILL stick on boards other than defence.pk

It's not the aviation community,
it started from the DCS gaming platform and has filtered through a little, as I've it used outside the game community as well.

You are right, unless we put a stop to it, the stupid name will stick.
It's fine for gaming, but not in real life.
Call it what it is, JF17, Thunder.

Thunder should stay..

Thunder is the nick. The widespread of some fanboy calling shall not be attributed causing more names. Soon, people will be explaining that Jeff is not the Aircraft. I really hope that we are good at stopping incorrect practices.

It's the inert habit of brown people to follow or copy what the white people (mostly anglos) say or do. Not limited to by any means, just india or Pakistan, but rather most of the Southern region of the Asian Continent.

Well, the Fighting Falcon became the Viper... nick names evolve.

FC-1 is still used in reference to JF-17 in China. That is official and she used it rightly.
Well, the Fighting Falcon became the Viper... nick names evolve.

The Viper upgrade exists and given the lethality of Fighting Falcon, the same is used in reference. But still, if we are supposed to argue and insist on something which is merely a creation of DCS guys; I am really sorry but the argument as such is nothing but waste of time.

Where did you get it will be the most basic jet. Why do people sell themselves so short.
Cant cant cannot impossible .
Basic means all the technology that is available and matured would only be installed on azm.
Hmd,s are installed on vipers way back and you are putting into jf-17 now after nearly 1.5 decades later.
Jf-17 was very basic when we acquired it but it matured with time.
Aviation project are decades long projects before any fruitation come from them.

Almost all aircraft being developed now have HMD. Doesnt mean it will be the most basic form...and please don't teach us English when you don't know what you are saying .
Basic means just that...semantics is your thing.
