JF-17 Block-3 -- Updates, News & Discussion

By decreasing the aircraft dry weight using composites
That's true, composites will reduce overall wt but it will make the fighter expensive.
That still wont solve KLJ-7A air cooled AESA RADAR power requirements and its TRM.
I probably can calculate some ball park power requirements and if RD-93 can still meet based upon publicly available specs of JFT Block 3 but dont have time. If someone with EE background take a shot.

Could it mean a JF17A Block III flying over Lahore can see planes taking off from Halwara Air Force Base in India which is home to Indias fleet of Su30 MKI

And it is even more interesting that India has stationed its new French Built Rafale just outside Haryana just outside the range of the JF17A Block III radar?

If India lost a Rafale it would be a huge embarrassment and a complete PR disaster for both India + France I doubt they will ever field them in combat

As far as I understand, Block-I is already at par with Block-II standards now (upgraded) so technologically, there's no Block-I. Eventually, there is a side plan to upgrade Block-II airframe to the Block-III standards in future which will make a majority Block-III flying fleet. I am not claiming but would suggest to keep an eye in this area. Most of the flying Thunder will be In'Sha'ALLAH in Block-III Mod. These are plans that I assume by looking at several developments.

Thank you. The common understanding is that block-1 and 2 are structurally identical so why not upgrade block-1 to the same upgrade standard as what block-2 will go through, i.e., block-3 equivalent.

Araz, I might be missing something, but I don't follow the logic of your argument. If you're saying the Chinese are developing radar and avionics at a rapid pace, allowing for more sophisticated equipment at lower cost, then surely that makes an upgrade of earlier blocks more viable, not less likely? As the PAF have demonstrated, they get the most out of their aircraft, like the Mirages, and the JF-17s will be with the PAF for a considerable time given the investment PAC/PAF have made. I'm not saying the Block I/II airframes will be completely rebuilt to Block III standard, like Gripen C airframes being rebuilt to NG standard, but some structural upgrades to extend the life and integration of AESA, HMD, and a dedicated LDP station is certainly realistic in my view.
I do not disagree with you my friend. All I am saying that with the Chinese progressing at a rapid pace our options will open up even more. For instance GANbased AESA radar might be an easier option to upgrade to without the degradation associated with heating in Air cooled AESAs. Perhaps senility got the better of me.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on Wednesday formally announced serial production of the most advanced variant of JF-17 Thunder Block III – a 4.5-generation aircraft with far more advanced technology than IAF’s Rafael jets.

A ceremony at the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, Kamra also witnessed the handing over of 14 state-of-the-art indigenously developed dual seater JF-17B Thunder Block-II fighter jets to the air force.

On the other hand, Pakistan Navy Air Defence Units demonstrated their combat readiness through live firing of surface to air missiles (SAMs).

Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan, while addressing the handing over the ceremony of the newly-built dual seater JF-17B Thunder jets here at the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) Kamra, termed the inclusion of jets in national fleet as a significant milestone achieved in the history of the country.

He said the JF-17 Thunder was proved as a battle tested aircraft during successful expression of mastery in Operation Swift Retort against IAF intrusion of territorial sovereignty on February 27, 2019.

The ceremony also marked the announcement of serial production of PAF’s most advanced 4.5 generation JF-17 Thunder Block III jets. The air chief commended the in-time completion of the project by the Aircraft Manufacturing Factory (AMF) team of the PAC involved in the development of the advance generation of the dual seater JF-17B Thunder and Block-III jets version. “The year of 2019 has been very challenging due to the COVID-19 pandemic as it disturbed life all over the world. It also inflicted serious impacts on the PAC project of JF-17B Thunder Block-III as the entire complex has remained under lockdown.”

Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar proudly said that PAC Kamra had upheld its traditions despite the most challenging times of the pandemic. “I would like to commend the entire team and PAC leadership including chairman PAC and Managing Director AMF for their concerted efforts to meet the project deadlines.” PAC, he said, was the backbone of PAF operational readiness and had displayed their capabilities to meet challenges with limited resources at the optimum level.

The air chief also extended his gratitude to Ministry of Defence Production and Chinese Aviation Industry for their continuous support.

“The dual seat version of JF-17B and the production of Block-III marks the achievement of a significant milestone as it will play an important and significant role in geostrategic milieu due to the technology installed in the modern aircraft.” He mentioned that the project’s completion was not possible without the assistance of Chinese experts, engineers and technicians and this project had further solidified the Pak-China friendship and bilateral defence ties.

The air chief acknowledged the role of media at all levels including print, electronic and social media for highlighting Pak-China friendship and collaboration under CPEC and JF-17B Thunder production. He urged the media to further promote the Pak-China ties and collaboration in a positive manner.

“PAF has demonstrated its capabilities time and again and is ever ready to thwart any aggression of the enemy with a crushing response,” the air chief expressed his resolve.

PAC Chairman Air Marshal Syed Nauman Ali briefed the participants over the project details and highlighted that JF-17 Thunder would be the shining symbol of cooperation between Pakistan and China.

He said due to COVID-19 lockdown in PAC, technicians and experts completed the project in due time despite many odds where the Chinese experts supported extraordinarily PAC for meeting the programme targets. Air Marshal Nauman resolved that the PAC would stand committed to fulfill the sacred duty of augmenting fighting force and strength to defend the country’s aerial sovereignty.

Speaking on the occasion, Chinese Ambassador Nong Rong said that PAC’s successful acquiring of the capacity to build JF-17B Thunder Block-III ai

to keep blk-i and blk-ii relevant in future air warfare they would certainly get upgrades in future but expecting blk-i and blk-ii to be upgraded at par with blk-iii seems a litle bit far fetched idea.

The most we should expect is the integration of air cool AESA radar with blk-i & ii either LKF-601 or some other AESA radarView attachment 701809

I think, they wanted to say world best by beating F22\ F35 but mistakenly mentioned Rafale.

No it wasn't a mistake

Quiet intentional
