JF-17 Block-3 -- Updates, News & Discussion

The F-35 example is just to prove a point. Yes the JF-17 Block-3 will be at a disadvantage in WVR combat against the Rafale F3. But that disadvantage will be reduced to the extent of the difference in the HMD and HOBS missiles of both aircrafts. I am hopeful that the difference will be overcome further with the skill and training of our pilots.
Just my two cents.

India should be getting Rafale F3R spec, and it come with HMD too, plus Rafale F3R avionics/sensor should be 1 generation ahead JF-17 Bloack3. seriously i think PAF should getting 12-24 unit J-31 no late than 2023.

I agree with you that Pakistan / PAF should get 30 units of J-31 or J-10C . While India will attack with Rafale .

Let me clarify what India intends to do with those 26 Rafales'.

Use them every year in AeroIndia, 15th August and their Vayu Shakti.

Do not be expecting those jets to be going against anything we have in our arsenal. I'd be surprised if those jets even came in striking distance of the LoC.

Here is what it says:

"Wei said this probably means while the upgrades like the new AESA radar are still in development, the airframe, which remains roughly the same, can be manufactured without waiting.

Once new developments are complete, they can be fitted on the airframe very fast, ensuring a quick delivery time, Wei said."

This implies that they are not letting AESA development delay batch production, but it doesnt mean the AESA will be ready when the first batch is made. I hope you are right, but article suggests otherwise.
HMD is a bigger news than delay in AESA radar..

for rafale PAF should try to get used f16, SABER and AIm9x

Forget f 16s ..

That is a platform we cannot modify and supplier wont give the needed upgrades...

Current f 16 will become legacy fighters in a decade.. Project azm shud b kicking in but we should be looking at a semi stealth heavy lifter as interim

While F16s with SABR radar and AIM 9X would certainly be impressive but it carries with it that same leash.

I think that Pak should acquire two(at least) squadrons of J10C. J10C supplemented with JF17 block III and a sizable number of JF17 block I and II...all datalinked...with each other, AWACS, and ground radars, possibly operating under SAM cover as well...it should be sufficient to tackle the threat of IAF(including Rafale) for the foreseeable future.

Of course funds are tight but I'm hoping in a couple of years Pak can manage to gather sufficient funds for two squadrons of J10C.

Turkey is making alot of gear for the F16 upgrade especially AESA radar and that should be the focus instead of US based options.
USA will not allow third party modification

Not correct on upgrading F16 by yourself. US close the upgrade path if you go to the US for upgrades. It is a way to keep business to LM. This is a standard practise in all systems not limited to aircraft.

you mean USA will allow turkish upgrades and allow all the business that LM will loose?

The Ozgur Viper program is meant to be free of control and dependency on the US govt and LM. A completely new homemade AESA and suite of avionics will be replacing all existing systems from its Block-30 Vipers. It is Turkey's version of the F-16V kit. This may help cut the umbilical cord of dependency on the US regarding the F-16. Pakistan too may take benefit from the program.

Just a thought.

USA will not allow it, turkey can do it because
F16 was essentially a JV for them
Turkey has offered to upgrade Pakistani older F16 blocks and those older blocks can be upgraded by Turkey except blk52 which has to be done by the US
i dont know where you have this info from, will be good if true..older f16 can be easily procured from market and put into structural upgrades

I think the main purpose is to break free of the dependency in the future.
The meaning of Ozgur is free or independent.
If Turkey has the capacity to keep the engines maintained (which I believe they have) then they can have a plane that is not so dependent on US help and hampered by any possible sanctions. Pakistan can take Turkish assistance.

It could be a possibility.

A while back Turkey offered to upgrade Pakistan older F16 and they are developing inhouse solutions that say adios to uncle sam.
