Well you clearly missed the part where the Chinese were also to procure 150 examples initially along with the PAF =)
they were only promises to do that but they actually don't need it because they were developing J-10 at the time of promises

I am worried about higher bypass ratio and how that would effect overall performance (high speed, high altitude, etc).

You should not be concerned about this increase in the bypass ratio.

It's not like WS-13 has been pushed to a 'high bypass' ratio engines category, it is still a low bypass category WITH added benefits of increased bypass ratio such as significantly lower noise (contributes towards stealth characteristics), improved (controlled) overheating of the nozzle,

Without additional information such as thrust specific fuel consumption (TSFC) - a value that indicates the thrust produced from X amount of fuel. Lower the value, the better.

If the TSFC has remained constant with an increase in bypass ratio, its good news. If it TSFC has increased, its not.

If TSFC has lowered, its the best news (Expect a considerable increase in ferry range/combat radius)

All things being equal higher bypass should lead lower SFC. But the that will come at a cost (relatively) to throttling performance along high altitude and high speed performance.

One interesting development happening in US and per some literature in China too is development of variable bypass ratio engine to get the best of both types but it’s a decade or two away.

Are thunders blk 3 coming with WS 13?

by the looks the couple of peaks that came out of its maiden flight, the engine looks like the RD93, not WS13...
Senior member @Dazzler saying it is WS-13E, but Huiatong site saying it is RD-93, lots of confusion remains for which engine used by Block-3 during its first flight

it could be in phases...use the tried & true RD93 during the first couple of flights to verify the flight parameters...then slowly move to WS-13E as test flights progress.

Ws-13 is not that different.... unless the ws-13e brings in more substantial advantages especially in time during overhauls and better reliability I don’t see it being adopted over the rd-93
