What's new

Japan and US enclose Chinese coast within sensor net

The airfield in Yonaguni is only 2000 meters, it can only be expanded by taking it into the sea.

Sounds good. As you can see, I've been following the events in the area and I've been hoping for more solid developments there.

Hehehe. I'll post some pictures of the 1st escort Fleet of the JMSDF doing recon patrols in the vicinity of Yonaguni . Btw, the JS Izumo will be attached to the 1EF. :)

Good, keep me posted on new developments in the Southern Ryukyus.

Underwater microphones bugging of the world's oceans is nothing new.

In 1949 we started this:
SOSUS - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The system is so sensitive that it can even detect the presence of Soviet/Russian Tu-95 Bear 4-engine bombers flying overhead; the tips of the bombers's long propellers exceed the speed of sound, creating sonic booms as they spin around. These sonic booms reach the surface of the ocean below, which then transmits the sonic shocks to the underwater hydrophones.

...

Moreover, SOSUS data from March 1968 facilitated the discovery, and clandestine retrieval 6 years later, of parts of a Soviet GOLF II-class ballistic missile submarine, the K-129, that foundered that month north of Hawaii."

It's 2015...I'm sure things are pretty sophisticated by now. The whole planet is wired in the oceans, in the air, and in space.

Thats also how we found the USS Scorpion that was lost.

Part of me feels bad for the Chinese because they do, indeed, have a small maritime domain , they are constrained due to the fact that she has multiple coastal neighbors. Let's examine, shall we?

East-Asia-Overlapping-ADIZ.jpg

Notice the close proximity between Chinese ADIZ and Japanese ADIZ

Notice the Korean ADIZ and the constraint this impacts on China

Japan is not constrained the same way as China is, in terms of maritime territory. In fact we have our arms into the depths of the Western Pacific. :)

China wants the Pacific Ocean.

Very good info, thank you, that made everything very clear, very smart move from USA and allies.

The reality of the situation, no matter how much the chinese try to spin their pseudo takeover of the SCS (which is far from done) is that they are still boxed inside the first island chain no matter what, geography is geography, and actually, the Spratly islands area can easily be made into a "kill box" by US forces and their allies.

Any input about this from @Nihonjin1051 @Yorozuya @gambit @SvenSvensonov @jhungary etc

A sort of "special ODA" from Japan to Indonesia huh? :enjoy:

underwater sonar have been used since after WW2, this is not much of a news actually.

However, how the USA use them is another story, the US needed to keep tab on who is leaving the area and how, and in a possible war with China, US would lose most of its influence in Asia first (US base in Guam, Japan and South Korea will be gone) and they would have been fighting blind in such scenario, and AWACS and Sub hunter like P8 would not be fully function in such a war, hence the US need those sensor net to charts the activities of Chinese Warship and counter strike using the forces in Hawaii.

Sensor net? This has been known in China for a long time. What is not well known is that how many of these sensors have been found and mined by PLAN. In case of a conflict it'd be hard to predict how the sensors would work as they did before. If PLAN does know the sensor net one shouldn't be surprised that PLAN would have "copied" it and made a Chinese net somewhere, in SCS or ECS?

Good luck!

Unforgiving geography indeed. The PLAN's nuke sub fleet is constrained, their exit point to the Pacific Ocean is only a small gap between the Philippines and Taiwan, which can easily be monitored by Japan+US (one of the reason the US won't let Taiwan fall into PRC hands too easily). Their exit point to the Indian Ocean is similarly constrained.
Unfortunately for USA, Taiwan will be annexed within five to ten years and then all that money spent to build a surveillance network will be a waste

We are already building a fleet of Zubrs! With 50 to 100 of these we can land entire divisions.

“Zubr” under construction at Longxue Shipbuilding Base

Enjoy your daydreams buddy.
Zubr will soon be your nightmare :)

Nothing new to us. In fact, this make the battle for Taiwan all more important. It gives us complete access to Pacific Ocean and destroy the US continental mainland. If we can take Taiwan in a short time, we can definitely destroy the US in the future.

Nobody can destroy US by military forces, not even all the countries combined. US, as a nation, can only be destroyed by Americans themselves as they are doing now. We'll just have to wait and see with patience. We don't have that military power but patience...

And of course you assume that USA and Japan will let you take over Taiwan.
Careful with so much daydreaming, it may encourage you to make some dreadful decisions that you will come to regret. Not only you daydream, but you even have the crystal ball. Not bad.

Running back to daddy again as soon as China shows a bit of muscle? ;)

See how that worked out for Pinoy

LMFAO a static sensor network against our amphibious island attack machine

No wonder China bullies so many countries with impunity. Human resources of your quality is all you guys have!

:china:

Its been known for many decades. The question is what sensors are out today. Where are they placed and so on.

Interesting............:big_boss:

@Carlosa @Indos if you haven't got your copy already, you can get that book for free (legally), just click on the PDF link:

The Tools of Owatatsumi - ANU Press - ANU

It talks about that surveillance system in depth. I'm busy haven't got time to check it out.

I'll add one more map to your list:

The PRC might want to modify its 10 dash lines again and turn it into an 11-dash-lines to protect their Sub base in Sanya . Right now, the first dash line is nowhere near that Sub base which means that by default, VietNam's EEZ boundary goes right up to the mid point between Da Nang and Hainan Island, which is only 70 miles away from the Sanya submarine base.

So with approval from Viet Nam, the US/JMSDF can install sensors right up to 70 miles from the PLAN's Sanya submarine base, without infringing China's sovereignty/EEZ. This means that not only can the US/JMSDF monitor when the PLAN nuke sub enters the Pacific/Indian Ocean, they can monitor those subs just right outside the Sanya base exit.

Carlosa, you live in Da Nang, don't you want assistance from JMSDF+US to install sensors to safeguard your hometown from a tsunami? But who knows, the Viet military might have already allowed these "tsunami early warning" devices to be deployed.

The red part pretty much sums up what the PDF keyboard warriors has been saying here. But beneath the surface:

The US is still the master chess player in Asia.:coffee:

Of course, everybody knows the U.S is the Boss of Asia. With Japan, south Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and other Asian countries on U.S side, The U.S doesnt have much competition/real challenger militarily in Asia. But economically, yes the Chinese are and wil increasingly be a big challenge for the U.S . Wil be interesting to see how things play out in coming decades. I like interesting geo political games.:bunny:

It's not daydreaming. It is a declaration of ball. We set the red line already. The ball is not in our court. LOL

In the 19th century to early 20th century, nobody had the ball to challenge the British Empire. Guess what? The rise of the Third Reich did. While they fail to destroy the Britain, at least they weaken the British Empire and caused Britain to be what it is today. As in the word of Justin Bieber, "Never say never" LOL
