ISRO unveils space capsule that will fly Indian astronauts

Yes. And they've been able to undertake expensive R&D, import expensive machinary etc, increase their manpower etc all because they were implicitly assured of a certain minimum number of sales. Breaking even and hopefully, making a profit, are all that influence such projects.

A VIP transporter might need multiple redundancies in a number of subsystems in order to increase the survivability of occupants. The present Dhruv, LUH etc are all configured for mil ops, and might need significant design changes to enhance their redundancies. If the Indian Govt can ensure a certain minimum sales for such a new product, they might yet take it up.:-)
We all know IAF is inducting VVIP helicopters to convey senior Indian political leaders and foreign dignitaries in comfort and safetyfrom AgustaWestland.Right now the contract is shrouded with controversy.
The Sophisticated, highly protected and very expensive, the AgustaWestland AW-101 forms a part of the US president’s fleet. It also featured in the James Bond film, Skyfall. :D
With 12 AW-101 VVIP helicopters for Euro 556 million (Rs 4,670 crore)......Why with that kinda money to fly them(VVIPs) in one DHRUV sorrounded by escort choppers and still it will turn out cheaper....:azn: Isnt it??
Indee not so long back these politicians used our IAF choppers for election campaignings too.
We are wasting our tax payers money by paying it AW or sirkosky's...instead that kinda money should be put in R&D of LCH of HAL.I am so sure they'll come up with something better and cheaper.

I am partially in agreement that our Politicos can make do with our Mi17s or Dhruvs. But having said that, I also know for a fact that usually, Helis configured for Mil Ops usually do not have multiple redundancies of critical subsystems in order to lose weight and stretch the range as much as possible. That's the one difference between dedicated VIP helis and Military Helis.

Hence, some of our VIPs like PM, President etc might need equipment that's a notch above these. But yeah, as you say, there's no reason why given similar funding, HAL cannot come up with such products.

Agree.
We need just few such copters for some VVIPs like PM. :)
But from what i know we gave order for 80....received 3...made half the payment and now the case is dragged to courts.Agustawestland will never return the money or take the helicopters back. they will also not supply spare parts.
So there goes tax payers money for a six. :D

Umm, No. The deal was only for 12 helicopters.:-) And they're frigging expensive because of multiple redundancies in many subsystems. I'm afraid the other part of your post are all true. These beauties might simply rot away in a Govt Hangar if the issue fails to get resolved.

So an Indian will be put into space in 7 years which means around 2021. That's an Indian timeline without any delay. That will be 18 years after China put a human into space. Again, that's if India sticks to its timeline. But as we all know, delays are part of India.

My guess is that it will be around 2025-2030 before India puts a man into space.

My guess is that Iran will do it before India.

Gosh where did I get that figure of 80 in my head???
Blunders can be blamed on small mobile screens and poor back up memory :D

Possibly, you mixed up the deal for 80 Mi-17 V5s with this deal. :D The AirForce has agreed to provide some of these new machines for VIP duty during elections.

Thank you!!!
I still have no idea why I thought it was 80.The numbers do sound so exaggerated for the excessibely priced AW-101s. :D
Indee it had to happen infront of you???:hitwall:
By now you should know that blunders and me walk hand in hand. We're BFFs.:D

Mention not Didijaan!:-) Besides, it was such a small mistake. I can come up with much better ones any day (and I practice it everyday)!

great news ,can't wait for may-june launch of Mark III good luck ISRO

Not good enough! That's because we have a 'chaltha hai' attitude towards everything! We should have been up there with China by now. But.......

I know, but even though we may not like to acknowledge it, China has always been a few notches above us in absorbing and furthering technology. They've been having ICBM capability for so long now, and they received a lot of assistance from USSR till the 70s in most fields. We, on the other hand, went nowhere with our non-alignment.:(

i dont think thats the attitude with ISRO.to me it is the most professional govt organization.we did not do it yet because of the priorities and budgets.our crucial budgets are diverted in to gslv,MOM,and chandrayans, irnss etc..irso has only recently joined the billion dollar budget club..so it takes time.neverthkess they are doing an impressive job.
