Yes. And they've been able to undertake expensive R&D, import expensive machinary etc, increase their manpower etc all because they were implicitly assured of a certain minimum number of sales. Breaking even and hopefully, making a profit, are all that influence such projects.

A VIP transporter might need multiple redundancies in a number of subsystems in order to increase the survivability of occupants. The present Dhruv, LUH etc are all configured for mil ops, and might need significant design changes to enhance their redundancies. If the Indian Govt can ensure a certain minimum sales for such a new product, they might yet take it up.

Indee not so long back these politicians used our IAF choppers for election campaignings too.
We are wasting our tax payers money by paying it AW or sirkosky's...instead that kinda money should be put in R&D of LCH of HAL.I am so sure they'll come up with something better and cheaper.

I am partially in agreement that our Politicos can make do with our Mi17s or Dhruvs. But having said that, I also know for a fact that usually, Helis configured for Mil Ops usually do not have multiple redundancies of critical subsystems in order to lose weight and stretch the range as much as possible. That's the one difference between dedicated VIP helis and Military Helis.

Hence, some of our VIPs like PM, President etc might need equipment that's a notch above these. But yeah, as you say, there's no reason why given similar funding, HAL cannot come up with such products.

We need just few such copters for some VVIPs like PM.
But from what i know we gave order for 80....received 3...made half the payment and now the case is dragged to courts.Agustawestland will never return the money or take the helicopters back. they will also not supply spare parts.
So there goes tax payers money for a six.

Umm, No. The deal was only for 12 helicopters. And they're frigging expensive because of multiple redundancies in many subsystems. I'm afraid the other part of your post are all true. These beauties might simply rot away in a Govt Hangar if the issue fails to get resolved.

So an Indian will be put into space in 7 years which means around 2021. That's an Indian timeline without any delay. That will be 18 years after China put a human into space. Again, that's if India sticks to its timeline. But as we all know, delays are part of India.

My guess is that it will be around 2025-2030 before India puts a man into space.

My guess is that Iran will do it before India.

Possibly, you mixed up the deal for 80 Mi-17 V5s with this deal. The AirForce has agreed to provide some of these new machines for VIP duty during elections.

I know, but even though we may not like to acknowledge it, China has always been a few notches above us in absorbing and furthering technology. They've been having ICBM capability for so long now, and they received a lot of assistance from USSR till the 70s in most fields. We, on the other hand, went nowhere with our non-alignment.

i dont think thats the attitude with ISRO.to me it is the most professional govt organization.we did not do it yet because of the priorities and budgets.our crucial budgets are diverted in to gslv,MOM,and chandrayans,irnss etc..irso has only recently joined the billion dollar budget club..so it takes time.neverthkess they are doing an impressive job.
