Gay Jews have 'higher souls' than gentiles, says deputy minister - National Israel News | Haaretz

Habayit Hayehudi's Rabbi Eli Ben-Dahan says same-sex marriage is prohibited just as marriage between Jews and gentiles is.

Homosexual Jews have "higher souls" than gentiles, gay or straight, the deputy minister for religious services told the Israeli daily Maariv in an article published on Friday.

Even so, he would oppose any same-sex marriage bill, just as he would oppose marriage between a Jew and a gentile, said Rabbi Eli Ben-Dahan, a member of the right-wing Habayit Hayehudi party.

Same-sex marriage is "unnatural," the rabbi politician added, saying that "it is natural that the world wants continuity through relations between a man and a woman."

Ben-Dahan spoke out just as his his party and the Yesh Atid party reached a compromise, paving the way for passage of a preliminary bill in the Knesset offering tax breaks for same-sex parents.

The written deal between the two coalition partners has been kept under wraps but it is expected the bill will be shelved and that equivalent tax credits will be implemented through Finance Ministry regulations rather than legislation.

Ben-Dahan, who was absent from the Knesset vote, said he does not want to persecute gays, but that his opposition for the bill stems from his commitment to Israel's Jewish nature.

"I have to keep the state Jewish. Things to contradict the values, culture or tradition will not receive a stamp of approval," he said.

Isn't gay marriage allowed in Israel? @500

Also, this is so dumb. Jews can't marry gentiles? o_O

Hey @500 @Archdemon do you know who Jamie Geller is? :sarcastic:

No, it's not.

There are no civil marriages in Israel; only religious ones. Marriage is left to the jurisdiction of the community's religious establishment. If you're Jewish, you have to be married at a synagogue by a rabbi; if Muslim at a mosque by an imam etc. In Israel, the only sects of Judaism that are recognized, and allowed to officiate marriages, are the Orthodox ones, and their rabbis won't marry a Jew to a gentile. I've heard, in fact, that even for a US Jew it's most hard to marry an Israeli Jew, due to skepticism of Israel's rabbis towards American Judaism.

Maybe 'cause they're God's people?

Indeed. In the Jewish religion, Jews are said to have one soul more, a divine one, than non-Jews, which only have one, impure soul shared with animals. In this 'soul' scale, non-Jews are like animals; both stand in a mid-term between Jews, in the superior extreme, and vegetables, in the inferior one. What a beautiful religion, isn't it.

Hahaha, when its to spread this gay, LGBT culture they vouch for human rights, but when it affects them, they say "We have to keep Israel Jewish".
Ain't that a hypocrisy? you spread gay/LGBT and other perverse things around the world with your influence, but yet, want your children to be not influenced by it? wow, i get your agenda, you want to destroy the morals of every civilizations, thereby degrading them and teaching them your way in the end it's"NEVER AGAIN".
I understand your pain, but instead of trying to radicalize the world with your ****,media and other things why not try to talk with real people?
