At least 10 soldiers were killed Egypt's Sinai Peninsula on Friday by a car bomb that targeted two armored vehicles stopped at a checkpoint, security sources said.

At least 27 soldiers were injured in the attack in the al-Kharouba area northwest of al-Arish, near the border with the Gaza Strip, the sources said.

Eyewitnesses had earlier heard a loud explosion near the Egyptian town of al-Arish in the Sinai Peninsula on Friday afternoon in what appeared to be an attack on a nearby army installation.

Security forces face a jihadist insurgency that has killed hundreds of soldiers and policemen since the army toppled President Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood last year after mass protests against his rule. Most attacks have been in Sinai.

RIP.

Cut business ties to Qatar over Islamic State, ministers warned

Ministers have been accused of becoming too close to a Gulf state that is blamed for funding terrorists in Syria and Iraq.

Qatar, which has multi-billion-pound business interests in the UK, is now the focus of growing disquiet over its links to the financing of jihadists fighting for both al-Qaeda and the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (Isil).

A US Treasury blacklist of designated terrorists identifies at least seven extremists with connections to Qatar, but the UK Treasury’s list contains just one.

Terrorism financiers on the US list but not on the UK one include Abd al-Rahman bin Umayr al-Nuaymi, who was designated as a terrorist in December last year by the US government.

Al-Nuaymi is accused by the US of transferring £1.25 million a month to al-Qaeda in Iraq.
Al-Nuaymi is also on a United Nations sanctions list.

Al-Qaeda terror financier worked for Qatari government

An al-Qaeda money man was employed by the Qatari government despite being officially designated a terrorist by the US.

Salim Hasan Khalifa Rashid al-Kuwari channelled hundreds of thousands of dollars to al-Qaeda through a terrorist network while working in the Gulf state’s Ministry of Interior.

...//...The US accuses Kuwari of operating in a network with another Qatari, Abdallah Ghanim Mafuz Muslim al-Khawar.

...//...The Ministry of Interior was headed until last year by a controversial and powerful member of the ruling al-Thani family, Abdullah bin Khalid al-Thani...//...He is accused in the official 9/11 Commission report of giving shelter to Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the mastermind of the attack on New York’s Twin Towers. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was given a job with the Qatari government in 1992.

Four years later, he fled the country after being tipped off by a senior official in the Qatari government that the Americans were planning to arrest him for a car-bomb attack on the Twin Towers in 1993.

Condoloncens to our Arab/Semitic brothers and neighbors across the beautiful Red Sea. May you defeat this menace. I am not so sure if this is MB's work and I by no means a fan of them as almost every user on PDF knows. It's too early to conclude this. Sinai has been engulfed in militancy even during the Mubarak era. I remember terrorist attacks on Western/Arab tourists in Sharm el-Sheikh etc. The roots of terrorism should also be investigated. Many times it is due to politics, poverty and thus lack of jobs. It only takes a few hundred people out of 85 million Egyptians to cause trouble in a whole region unfortunately.

But I find it very suspicious that our Jewish MOROCCAN serial troll (hey there cousin) is now concerned about Egyptian soldiers when he openly has written that he wants all 450-500 million Arabs dead if not all Muslims (1.7 billion) to die.

Three more killed in separate attack in Sinai: sources

CAIRO: Three more members of Egypt's security forces were killed in an attack in a town in the Sinai Peninsula on Friday, hours after a car bombing claimed 25 lives, security sources said.

Men opened fire at the security forces at a checkpoint in the town of al-Arish, they said. It was not immediately clear whether the dead were soldiers or police.

Sinai attacks kill at least 29 Egyptian soldiers

Three more Egyptian soldiers were killed in the Sinai Peninsula on Friday, hours after an attack on two armored vehicles that stopped at a checkpoint killed 26 soldiers, security sources said.

An earlier report said 10 soldiers were killed and several other soldiers were seriously wounded in the first attack, which took place in the border area of Karm el-Qawadees in the Sinai Peninsula.

Security sources gave conflicting accounts of what happened. Initially sources said it was a car bomb, but a security sources later told Al Arabiya that mortar shells were fired on the vehicles, one of which was loaded with ammunition.

Eyewitnesses had earlier heard a loud explosion near the Egyptian town of al-Arish in the Sinai Peninsula on Friday afternoon in what appeared to be an attack on a nearby army installation.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi convened Egypt’s national security body to discuss the deadly attack, Al Arabiya correspondent in Cairo reported.

Security forces face a jihadist insurgency that has killed hundreds of soldiers and policemen since the army toppled President Mohammad Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood last year after mass protests against his rule. Most attacks have been in Sinai.

Last Sunday, a roadside bomb exploded near an armored vehicle guarding a gas pipeline in north Sinai, killing seven soldiers, AFP reported.

In September, militants killed 17 policemen in Sinai in two bombings and later released footage of the attacks.

Those bombings were claimed by Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, the most active militant group in Egypt. It tried to assassinate the interior minister in Cairo last year with a car bomb.

The group has expressed support for Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), although it has not formally pledged its allegiance.

The military has said it killed at least 22 militants in October, including a local Ansar Beit al-Maqdis commander.

The group itself has acknowledged the arrest or deaths of its cadres, but so far the army has been unable to quell the militants despite a massive operation in which it has deployed attack helicopters and tanks.

The militants sometimes operate openly in north Sinai, setting up impromptu checkpoints and handing out leaflets.

They say they target policemen and soldiers to avenge a bloody police crackdown on Islamists after Morsi's overthrow that killed hundreds in street clashes and imprisoned thousands more.

There was a legitimate election that was unlawfully overthrown by a junta. I don't necessarily agree with this kind of violence, but I think they have a legitimate grieviance. The army has many many enemies so this won't be stopping any time soon with things as they are.
