well historically, the arabs used such words before addressing audience, and none of the faithful ever questioned the meaning of these words from Prophet Muhammad pbuh, its upto us how we interpret it...

It was owais alqarni ( r-a ), salman met the prophet and stayed with him as a matter of fact he is the one who suggested the khandaq in ghazwa khandaq.
