Is India The Next Space Superpower? | Unveiled

Cant imagine this video made in Feb 2021.

This obvious amateur video is just hurting my brain with all the uneducated nonsense and misinfomation and misrepresentations to crown India into some selfmade powerhouse it has never been.

But did Indian cows start pissing oil or what? I get all these polticially driven efforts to bolster up India at least verbally and in the minds, but this stuff is so over the top it borders sarcastic trolling. Or is it just some way to get easy ad revenue from the many Indians swarming to such content?

.
Only if Pakistan and India have managed to solve their issues and collaborated on Space exploration, the talent in the subcontinent is in abundance but it's just the petty border rivalry that keeps the progress away, I'd say India Pakistan, and Bangladesh all should join hands to work over space exploration as equal Partners.

no I'm afraid india is NOT the next space super power but, give credit where it's due, india has indeed succeeded in becoming world's first space chootarr power! :enjoy:

Mars colony is a stupid idea both morally and financially

Why is it a stupid idea ? Compare Mars colonization to such "great" Indian projects like that Patel statue ( the world's tallest statue currently ) and to the under-construction PM palace. Compare the cost of having a couple of Mars colonies with the American military budget which just for 2020-21 is 934 billion dollars ! Compare the unambitious Indian ( ISRO ) space program which for five decades has been stuck in building satellites unlike the program of the much younger SpaceX which from the start has spoken of Mars settlement and will have an unmanned Starship doing a circuit of Mars orbit in 2024.

India is currently the sixth biggest economy in the world so what's the problem ? Where is all the money going ? Certainly not towards establishing a welfare state situation where the basic services ( healthcare, education, housing, electricity etc ) are for free ?

The now-defunct Mars One project had thousands of applicants from everyone including India. These were regular people.

not to mention it is not going to happen at least till 2050.

In my understanding Elon Musk has said that SpaceX has a chance of at least a manned Starship doing a circuit of Mars orbit in 2026. And I think by the mid-2030s there will be a couple of Mars settlements.

Billionaires like Musk should first terraform/greenify the vast tracts of Sahara instead.

Yes, that too should happen. But Mars is also important. Again I ask, why not Mars ?

I have some not-so-positive and some positive things to say about the vid.

I must say the vid is a bit overenthusiastic in praising ISRO. This organization was actually preceded by a similar one called INCOSPAR which was set up in 1962 and that makes ISRO 59 years old. Compare that to SpaceX which is 19 years old and has already taken people to space ( the International Space Station ) and is currently developing spacecraft that can technically carry 100 people to Mars orbit though there is the thing about carrying food, water, medical items and other things.

ISRO did the incorrect thing of becoming a satellite launcher when it should have concentrated on human spaceflight right from the time of establishment. Actually with the number of engineers and scientists that India has and the reasonably large industrial base it has there should have been an Indian Mars colony by now.

Nevertheless one good thing that has been happening in Indian space circles in recent years is delegation of spacecraft R&D to private groups. I know of three - Agnikul Cosmos, Skyroot Aerospace and Bellatrix Aerospace - which are either developing rocket engines, engines for satellites or entire launch rockets ( for small payload ). I hope that they get more ambitious and develop human space transport programs individually so that at least by the mid-2030s they can transport people and infrastructure to Mars. Also, I hope India can have a joint Mars settlement effort with South Asia, Southeast Asia, Africa, West Asia and Caribbean / South America.

@Goenitz, forgot to tag you.

India surely used its human capital and industrial muscle to propel itself in the space arena. Like another user mentioned as long as the space program is "solely at the mercy of bureaucrats" the real breakthrough is bit far, but as you mentioned they have started private sector research and that's the right step.

As for ISRO opting to become a satellite launch platform, I think its brilliant on their part instead of waiting for Govt grants which are peanuts compared to what is pend on lining the pockets of corrupt bureaucrats and of course the "defense" (true for two countries having lowest HDI AFAIK), rather they have chosen to earn money, money which they will further spend for R&D.

They have the human capital, they have expertise I am sure when the time comes they will be ready.

Mission to Mars or a moon base is not too far a possibility but there are monumental challenges, like effect of gravity on human physiology (remember moon and mars have different gravities compared to earth normal) what effect will it have on blood circulation, reproduction, bone density et. Then there is the challenge of radiation poisoning I think shields though a core component of space sci fi is yet to be seen.

Then there is the challenge of propulsion, although I have seen some POC on alcubierre drive based upon "speculative theory" of Miguel alcubierre.

Mr Spock learned warp drive from Ancient Indians at Nalanda university. So India is already ahead.Indians should be proud of this achievement.

Oh Bhai why NASA ànd other space agencies have a plan to do it after 2030 ànd have a plan to go on moon and astorides do you know for what purpose???

LOL why not HYPERPOWER OF THE UNIVERSE 😂 in front of LM-5/ NASA'S SLS this is nothing but a child with a few thousand kilograms

India would've earned my respect for what it has accomplished as a major developing country with a superpower ambition, if not for their over matching big mouth.

If cost efficiency is a decisive factor to be included as a measurement in the debate whether a country is a space power then we have to disappoint the Indians with a NO. It should be judged through achievements.

Why aren't the Russians collaborating with Space Supa Powa India for Lunar Research Station? It is cheaper but more effective than NASA and way more advanced than China, right?

The Indians are so effective, cost efficient, so advanced that's why American top tech companies hire Indians for CEO posts. It has shown NASA it could achieve a lot for less which they are very proud of as a very convincing selling point. NASA better partner with first tier space power ISRO if US intends to save money and challenge the Sino Russo moon base.
