Is Bangladesh going for JF-17?

Sir you need better planes and in great numbers because your future relations with India will be not good and also you have to face Burma

Then BD should bought more then 500 planes

Well Seriously yes they need around 500 War Planes of 4.5 Generation or otherwise they will have to face India and Burma and it will be a disaster for it

Every Country including Bangladesh have to secure it self from India because India has problem with all of its neighbors and Bangladesh should have a strong Air Force because that region in near future can turn into a really volatile and so secure their country they need really strong Air Force

I agree with you, every country have right to have better Force. But at what cost?? there are 2 type of force, offensive and defensive.

Like IAF have offensive capability against Pakistan and Defensive against China. Same way BD can have offensive AF against Burma and Defensive AF against India.. 2-3 Squadron of 4.5 gen fighters can make BD capable enough to defend.

The Fighters BD can chose from
1. MiG35/29OVT/29SMT/29K
2. Grippen (If Sweden Agree)
3. Rafael/EFT (If wallet permits)
4. Su35BM/30MKB (for BD)(If wallet permits)
5. F16/18 (If USA gives and wallet permits)

LCA/FC1/J10B are claimed to be 4.5 gen, But i doubt these are. these are 4th gen fighter which BD already has.

I think BD should go for
1. MiG35/29OVT/29SMT/29K : They have experience for MiG29, its relatively cheaper.
2. Grippen : Its a new fighter but very promising fighter. It has less operational cost and better tag price
3. Rafael: As India will go for Rafael, Its production cost will go low. BD can negotiate better and have it in lesser price. French are some one whom we can trust.

BD military is mostly defensive in nature.

If India can get Rafale, I doubt if BD can get it. Also, it is very expensive.

Thanks for your concern for Bangladesh. But, India itself has 33 squadrons of fighter/bomber planes. BAF is planning to have a total of 9 sqs. or 144 planes including its training planes. This is certainly not good enough, but, our military is defensive in nature. Instead of buying expensive planes, BD is building land based anti missile system throughout the country that can protect our vital assets including the planes on the tarmac from an enemy's attack.

BAF is less inclined to buy fighters, because by spending only a fraction, BAF can kill the enemy planes as well as their missiles by installing and activating anti missile system. However, we are building our navy very strongly.

Although if we have enlisted JF-17 in our procurement list it is very much unlikely in this BAL period. More 16 F-7BG have ordered as an stop gap that won't harm our procurement budget.

I agree with eastwatch that before procuring new aircraft we need to build a good air defence system through out the country.
C-802 workshop is also under construction.

our mirage III rose project jets are now going to be retire they are better for bangladeshis

wasn't that a sarcastic comment? or are you really unaware of the retirement time and life span of these mirages?

Bangladesh is better off with few but quality aircrafts, what's the need for them to go for old aircrafts just to make up numbers when they don't have a hostile environment like Pakistan

YOu bought some near retired plane 20 years back and now you want to sell them again to us. What should we do with them? Put them in museum?

Wasn't it reported that some fighter pilots from friendly countries' airforces were allowed to come to Pakistan and test-fly the JFT? I'm wondering if BAF pilots were among them. If *any* country's pilots are allowed to fly our JF-17s, BAF is likely to be among them.

And all these discussions going on over here about JF-17's comparative performance to various aircraft(Indian).. you have to compare the whole avionics package of an aircraft to understand how it may perform in combat. For example, the JF-17 was designed compatible with China's front-line combat weapons suite. This means it uses the same AAM(Active Radar& Heatseeker missiles), same Laser-Guided Munitions, etc, that their frontline J-10, J-11(SU-30) use. The Pakistanis actually took shipment of the latest SD-10B BVR air-to-air missiles even before the PLAAF took shipment(Pakistan's needs were deemed more urgent as China already has older SD-10 BVR versions, some people also suggested that Pakistan might have some development input in the -B variant given they're taking priority shipments). Along with China's frontline weapons suite, Pakistan has also been acquiring what it likes internationally, like the MAR missiles from Brazil for SEAD(destroy enemy radars, SAMs from a safe distance).

The SD-10B, which is China's latest BVR air-to-air missile packs quiet a punch. China has been able to invest alot more in this area(as well as most other areas) compared to the Russians(who face funding problems), and one consequence of this is that the SD-10B offers superior performance to the R-77 BVR missiles that Russia manufactures(and India uses). Even western sources rate the SD-10B to be roughly equal to the AIM-120-C5 missile(slightly older AMRAAM), superior to the R-77.

Also in addition to China's missile-development being much more rapid(and well-funded) compared to the Russians, India has been operating R-77s since the 90's, so these are almost decades old and aren't even the latest and greatest R-77s Russia has been developing. The latest SD-10B has a range of over 100km+. In combat, despite the SU-30 exceeding the JF-17 in some areas, in this critical area, the JF-17 would be able to achieve missile lock at, and shoot down, the Indian jets before they can manage to come close enough.

Being a smaller aircraft(smaller airframe = lesser fuel-carrying capacity), the JF-17 isn't ideal for deep strikes into enemy territory, as it's combat radius is limited(1352km combat radius without external fuel-tanks, 3480km ferry range with fuel-tanks). But for defensive purposes it packs quiet a punch. And 1352km is pretty decent for strike as well, quiet a terror for the enemy, conducting missions over a thousand km inside enemy territory.

Our wallet is slim but not that slim that we will by 20 year old package

You're right - despite being a peaceful country, Bangladesh's defence needs do require a modern fighter. JFT does seem to fit the bill though, like I mentioned in the post above, with the same frontline weapons suite China's own combat aircraft use - this gives the JFT a pretty huge advantage over contemporaries in the region.

Atleast for the time being, the SD-10B is the deadliest BVR currently in-use in the sub-continent rightnow. And China's rapid pace of development is likely to enhance this lead even more. Already it is more modern and advanced than the R-77 equipping India's AF since the 90's.

We should not sell JF-17 to BD because of Indian influence over there n enmity towards Pakistan.BD & Afghanistan are 2 countries to them what ever good you do they will blame Pakistan for every thing. So it is better not to evolve too much there n leave them to solve their problems by them self.:coffee:
as if we are buying
