I just hope they take measures to ensure this radar mast (if it's really being installed) doesn't make the ship too top heavy and follow the same fate as the first Damavand.
Have faith in the Iranian naval engineers...The first Damavand sank because of human error on the part of the captain (wonder what happened to him!! may be a desk job )and bad luck of engine quitting at the wrong time. Going to Multiple engines as they have done in the current Damavand 2.0 (not sure if two or 4 engines) should provide more reliable operation. Sinking of the ship was inevitable just as it happened few months ago to the Norwegian! frigate.

I’ve been worried as well with the ever heavier superstructures. However it is such a basic ship construction fact that there should not be no doubt the expert engineers have it under consideration.

I agree. I think stability of the structure (be it a building or a ship) is the first thing that an engineer looks at. So I don't see anything to worry about.

I know we have some very knowledgeable members here on radar so I have a stupid question about any Phased array radar such as the "eagle eye".. .I understand that each element on the radar plate is a "transmitter" and the scanning is done by Phase shifting .. so where is the receiver to receive the bounced back echo...!!.

i'm not one of knowledgeable members you said but as i know the same array used as transmitter, get used as receiver too.

KNM Helge Ingstad after the clash with the merchant ship, was embarking a lot of water, to avoid the sinking the commander to sent the ship on the rocks.
The ship, however, continued to take in water and slide towards deep water, the Norwegian specialists tried to slow down the sinking, but they succeeded only when almost the whole ship was under water.
The damage was very high, here is a photo after the lifting, the Norwegians have hidden with sheets, but you can imagine the damage suffered

however even if KNM Helge Ingstad has a Displacement of 5.290 tons, that is a little less than four times the Damavand (77), this did not allow it to stay afloat.
Sea water has undoubtedly rendered all electrical and electronic systems on board inoperable, the engines have to be replaced, and even the detection systems are lost, etc, only a few radar antennas emerged

the Norwegians will have to do well the accounts and decide if it is economically convenient to repair it, estimates made on some specialized sites, indicate that it could probably be cheaper to buy a new ship.

to my photoshop on how the new frigate Damavand-2 might look, I made some improvements to the
enclosed mast

Looks great,as always.:enjoy:
Any chance you could do one with the mast on top of/integrated with the bridge?.As I think this configuration would leave a lot more room for an amidships mounted vls carrying a decent land attack/antiship loadout.

with the indications of Sineva, but perhaps only anti-aircraft VLS is possible

In AESA radars each small module (an array is made up of hundreds or thousands of these) can both transmit and receive.

All PESA antenna elements are contected to SINGLE reciver and transmiter(so it has transmitter and reciver),while AESA antenna has one reciver and transmitter for every element. That is why AESA antenna can be used for more tasks in same time, you can split antenna in sectors and use one batch of elements for one task...second for second..also you will often hear that AESA antenna can work even if hit because of that feature since elements are independent but that is B.S used for marketing...because there are still many parts shared between elements and hit will disable it completlly..except if someone hits directly element with bullet and only damage module,of course any hit with missile or even RPG and it is done..but still this feature makes it very powerful,it can work even if some elements are disabled from ...and fact is that AESA is not depending on one RF source..But still when comparing aesa vs pesa radars it is not like many people think..like any aesa is better than any pesa..still we have to compare particular radars to see where it stands. There are very powerful PESA radars, beasts better say and in some situations you may want to go with PESA,even generally AESA radars have some significant adventages it still depend from application.

Thanks for the info to both of you..looking forward to see these radars on the Iranian war ships soon.
