TEHRAN, IRANIran's semiofficial Mehr news agency says a commander in its powerful Revolutionary Guard has been killed in Syria.

The agency said Monday that Mohammad Jamali was killed by "terrorists" a few days ago but didn't provide details. Calling the commander a "martyr," the agency said his funeral will be held in Kerman in southeastern Iran on Tuesday.

Iran is one of Syrian President Bashar Assad's main allies. Tehran has provided his government with military and political backing for years and has kept up its support since the uprising there began in March 2011.

Syrian President Assad is an Allawite, an offshoot of Shiite Islam, which is dominant in Iran. Most of Syria's rebels are Sunni.

On Monday, Mehr reported that a spokesman for the Revolutionary Guard (or IRGC) denied a Parliamentarian's claim that there are "hundreds" of Iranian military forces fighting in Syria.

"We strongly deny having any IRGC and Iranian battalions in Syria," Mehr quoted Brig. Gen. Ramazan Sharif. "As we have said before, Iran has not deployed any military force in Syria, and we only provide military advisory services for Damascus."

Last year, the Guard's chief commander, Gen. Mohammad Ali Jafari, said only high-level advisers were in Syria.

Defending Muslims my ares,
An Iranian majosi pocked his nose in an Arab issue came all the way from majosistan to meet his fate. Good that he had it. Rest in hell to him and to the rest of the Iranian who are in Syria. All of them will be hunted down and you will hear similar news in the coming days.

Rest in hell
He is former irgc he did not get the honor of martyrdom in 8 years war but in Syria defending sayyida zainab our martyrs are in paradise but your dead terrorists are in hell with Pharou and abu jahal and abu lahab

STFU camel jockey. Unlike Wahabistan and that tiny PERSIAN gulf island named Qatar, Iran has a defence pact with the Syrian government for military and strategic assistance. Now tell me what Wahabistans business is in Syria for pouring thousands of non-Syrian rebels in syria ? its not even a Syrian crisis anymore. Its global jihad backed by the zionists against Syria.

This Iran /Saudia [Shia/wahabi or more accurately Ajam/arab] war has done the greatest damage to Muslim ummah in our times . Ironically Islam is the state religion of both of them and both of them (shia and wahabi) make up small minority within the muslim ummah . Why are the persians and arabs fighting each other in every islamic country of the world by providing financial and physical support to the groups that share their ideology ? Why dont they directly wage a war against one another and settle this for once and for all ? so that the other muslims can live peacefully !!

It's salafists anti-arabs sect who want war, we never see Hezbollah barking in front of the cameras
We never see Hezbollah fighters, they are very few and don't want war

There are hundreds of salafists channels for the war in Syria, there are not even 1 for the war in Palestina

Salafists are good to encourage the war againt arabs by all means.
Why are the persians and arabs fighting each other in every islamic country of the world by providing financial and physical support to the groups that share their ideology ?
Blame the GCC who invaded HAMA in 1982 to protect the israeli invasion, they invaded Iraq with their Al Qaeda cockroaches in 2003 following the zionist USA masters.

They made it again in 2011 in Libya & in 2012 in Syria to protect the massive colonization of Cisjordania, launched by Netaniyahu in 2012.

He wasn't an active IRGC member, he was only a commander in Iran-Iraq war, and was already retired for years, he went to Syria on his own.

@OP, many Saudi nationals have already been killed in Syria, much more than Iranian ones, I wonder what's your take on it. Maybe they are 'justified' to be there, right?

Syria is a fellow Arab and Semitic country that is moreover by far majority Sunni as 90% of Saudi Arabia is. Moreover the two countries are nearly neighbors. Only that tiny northern strip of Jordan divides them.

Iran on the other hand has nothing to do with Syria. Might as well talk about Jamaica. You and your fake wannabe Arab Mullah's are meddling in Arab and Muslim affairs were you have no business. And you will get kicked out and lose like you have elsewhere in the Arab world where you have tried to meddle. And your pathetic defensive pact or what the hell you signed with the Child-Murderer ages ago is irrelevant here.

The Saudi Arabians who have come to Syria are all martyrs and are defending fellow Muslims and Arabs and helping them achieve freedom and eliminate Child-Murderers and pagans.

They are not Child-Murderers like your compatriot that was finished off inside Syria or fighting on the behalf of a Child-Murdering tyrant that happens to be a Nusayri.

Are you telling me this justifies that Saudis can go terrorize in Iraq and Syria ? Because they are Arab and Semetic ?
You do understand, no one gives a **** about races and ethnicity.

The Saudis in Syria are the same ones that blow themselves up in civilian areas of Iraq and Syria, may they depart to hell soon together with the other suicide bombers, you will not call them martyrs once they bomb themselves in Saudi Arabia which is also their goal but not priority, so quit the hypocrisy.

My opinion which I won't argue about ^^.

Please come up with something new, you have told the very exact same sentences to me for tens of times. Thanks.

Or worry about your Maliki clown securing the security of his people.
I don’t care about him, never cared when politicans get insulted.

The fact is that Iranians have nothing to do in the Arab world. And obviously ethnicity, culture, language and religion plays the biggest role. What else plays a bigger role? Liking the same movies?
Do you want the religious extremist shia to come into Saudi Arabia and spread their stuff around since we are both Arab.

Stop writing nonsense. If you want to support Mullahistan then enlist in a Shia militia and go to Syria.
Read what I just wrote, you wil find out theres no line of support towards Iran but criticizing of "the mujahideen suicide bombers" which you call martyrs in Syria but terrorists in Saudi Arabia. They are terrorists in Syria and Saudi Arabia, agree ?

Nobody is blowing himself up or targeting civilians. That is your own imagination.
You can keep supporting the Child-Murderer anyway. I don't care.
Open up youtube/********, no imagination
