Its has more advance tech than j85 and produce more thrust ( 42- 50 kn ) is enough to power something like Qaher

We are not going to build reliable turbofan engine over night ....

this goes to long back history .
at 30 years ago our decision was not to reverse engineers General Electric J85 because we know our relation with US is gonna get worse and worse so the decision was made to start on eastern engine . at time our relation with Soviet Union was at worst time as it could be because of sinking Soviet ships in Oman sea and persian gulf and Khomeini support for Afghan mujahideen and it anti Soviet remakes neither west or East .
so the decision was made to make WP13 engine because china at that time just sold us کرم ابریشم missile so we tought that was our best choose which turnout we were totally wrong like U.S or Russia they were never trustworthy and never Honour their contracts


so it just old project to send message we can do it without you

Yes it fell behind with the election of Ahmadinejad and Q313 was his ridicules response to the engineers who were complaining privately

During Rafzanjani & Khatami Iran was actively pursuing real projects like the Simorgh, Azarakhsh, Saegheh, Shafaq, etc, but once Ahmadinejad got elected most cash went towards IRGC backed projects and the IRGC from the beginning of the revolution has had problems with IRIAF

It's one thing to build a few working prototypes using materials (Superalloys) imported (smuggled) into the country and another to build the foundation required to produce fighters that are fast enough, good enough and cheap enough to compete with countries that built those foundations over 50 years ago.

For Iran a lot of the problems go back to and start from metallurgy and for us the cost of mass producing superalloys will have to go into the production costs of the fighter & this is just for the platform you still have to develop & or purchase a weapons system, radar, etc. that can compete....

Also, Iran needs to change it's priorities when it comes to building fighters! The best fighters in the world today are produced by U.S. & Russia because from the beginning their priorities were to build the biggest, baddest, fastest,... fighter in the world not the cheapest, least expensive and easiest to produce! The easiest & cheapest part only comes for export & it's not meant for a country that can't meet it's own needs.

IRIAF personal all know full well that having 5 F-14's is far more valuable than having 25 F-5E, Azarakhsh or Saegheh fighters. So if from the beginning Iran had focused on reverse engineering it's best fighter rather than it's worse, I believe today Iran's fighter program would have been far better off and far more advanced than it is! Hell even if they had chosen the F-4 we would have been far better off.
