Iran turns down Indian company’s offer to develop gas field

Initially, I thought Tshering's remark as a bit more sarcastic.
But wow, gas being auctioned was discovered with our own pockets.
Does the congressi Stupidity have any ends...??

ONGC Videsh had in 2008 discovered the Farzad-B gas field in its Farsi exploration block in the Persian Gulf.
Iran, in 2012, issued a one-month ultimatum to the OVL-led consortium over the development of a gas field but for more than three years, it still did not carry out the threat of cancelling allocation of the Farsi block to OVL. But now as you know the western sanctions over Iran have eased that means oil companies all across the globe can invest in their oil fields without any problem - earlier it was ONGC only willing to get in there. In fact ONGC along with IOC and OIL were among the five global companies named by the US administration for having energy ties with Iran, for which they could have faced sanctions by America.

The sluggish approach of ONGC over Farzad-B is attributed to the usual "policy-paralysis" of the erstwhile UPA government other than giving in to the American pressure of limiting trade with Iran until the nuclear talks are sorted out.

Ultimately India transfer its whole oil import from KSA to Iran, within 5 yrs. Thats for sure.

And Qatar-Iran-India multipurpose pipeline is going to build, thats written on wall.
That's never gonna happen. India is infact diversifying its oil and gas imports from gulf to Africa and even South American now. In future Russia and Canada too.

Won't happen !

As far India's oil imports from Iran are concerned - they will continue to grow as sanctions ease. In fact imports from KSA are declining while from Iran and other states are rising -.Over dependence on any one state for oil is a bad idea which the policy-makers are all aware of - Indian refiners are trying to diversify their procurement sources globally. We even sourced from Mexico which is often rare.

During January 2015, India’s total imports from Saudi Arabia dropped 8.85 per cent to 3.19 million metric tonnes from 3.5 million mt imported during the same period last year.

During this period, according to Platts, an energy information provider, oil imports from Iraq, Venezuela and Mexico has seen a sharp increase. While imports from Iraq climbed 56 per cent to 2.48 million mt in January, the imports from Venezuela, the world’s fifth largest crude oil exporter went up by 67.62 per cent to 2.33 million mt.

India is never gonna be too dependent on one single country for oil imports and that is why its trying to diversify its sources. Stopping complete import from KSA and importing 30+% of its oil from just one country(Iran) is against the very idea of this. India imports around 22% of its oil from KSA and there is a reason why Its decreasing that from KSA now and increasing imports from African nations.

Again read my comment and try to understand the essence,

When US put pressure on India, that time there was Congress ruling the country, which is the reason why we delayed in our actions and this is what happened.

BTW you seem to be in love with Congress for the disasters that it has done to our country isn't it?

Yeah we er..'Hindutvas' prefer to see our country taking bold decisions independently off anyone's influences. Like how we took initiatives with Iran when Vajpayee government was in power.

given the civillian nuclear deal with America and pressure from Saudi Arabia India had to vote against Iran on the nuclear issue

After so many Chinese and other companies played us during sanctions time in developing gas and oil fields, I think it's natural if we wait more for sanctions to be lifted and choose reliable partners this time. Not that western companies are all reliable, but when the money is involved. they have required expertise to develop gas fields using latest technologies.
