Iran plans manned space mission

Is that necessary to put a man into space right now? I am not against it but due to low funding we should focus on other things like satellites ....

I actually think it is just what the space agency needs. It needs funds, and you get funds by generating public and political interest. A manned suborbital flight - which, I will assure you, will NOT cost $15-20 billion (utterly ridiculous) - would do just that.

That I think is our only option. The military does not seem too interested in spy and GPS satellites for now, probably because they are far away technologically and financially. In the meantime, we need our space program to stay relevant, and a relatively cheap prestige project can do that.

Look at Germany, France, UK - none of these countries are doing such an expansive program on its own

Iran doesn't want an "expansive" manned spaceflight program. This is a prestige project pure and simple. It involves launching a small 1 man capsule straight up, and then bringing it right back down again. Not expensive at all.

There is, of course, another option: finding a partner to share the costs. Pakistan is actually an ideal partner

Quite the opposite.

i think if they cut the budget its smart move when iran be able to make a god car then it can send human to space
well USSR never managed to build a decent consumer car but they managed to send human into space before anybody else.

well human space mission may not be necessary right now but it'll be a very good drive to design and produce a serious SLV which is necessary if you want to have any meaningful space program even without human missions.

India should take note and implement manned space program. It would be somewhat shameful for ISRO if iran comes from behind and launches manned mission first which india has had on planning board since late 90s....

Anyway iran should invest in manned space program as it will be important for the upcoming space economy. Also as a way to show the US that is will remain strong and prosperous regardless of how many sanctions it puts on iran.

That's why I said I am not against it, we should do whatever it takes to keep it airborne by all means, my concern is mostly about priorities.

After cancellation of manned mission they did not increase the other sectors budget !!!

It was a political decision after JCPOA !

They don't need a lot of money to send a human into a suborbital trajectory ...

It's all political ...

Reformist government trusted Americans and received a middle finger so they are trying to hide their stupid decisions with that !
Really !!!

Weak men make weak decisions.
