Discussions on the peace pipeline contract are underway
The draft contract of the peace pipeline is being discussed by Iran and Pakistan in Islamabad, Oil Ministry's special envoy announces.

An official with the National Iranian Oil Company, Hojjatollah Ghanimifard, hoped that the draft contract for the construction of the Iran-Pakistan-India pipeline dubbed the "Peace Pipeline" would be finalized at the 3-day negotiations currently underway in Islamabad.

It is expected that the two sides will reach agreement on some of the pending articles of contract, the official said.

The visiting Iranian delegation is headed by the managing director of the National Iranian Gas Export Company, Hossein Nawab.

The 2,570-km pipeline is projected to carry 60 million cubic meters of gas per day to India via Pakistan at the initial stage.

Well, what can we say. It seems Pakistan is getting BOTH IPI and TPI pipelines, and India getting IPI and 123. Interesting, and good development from the both sides.

Would india allow a pipeline from bangladesh/burma through india to feed pakistan needs....i doubt it.
We should not allow the iran pipeline to supply india but use the the pipeline for our own needs and build it so it can reach china.
When we have everything in place and if the indians are acting as good neighbours then we might let them have a pipeline extention.
Treat the indians the same way they would treat us if it was the other way round.

I agree with you dabong, if it was through india coming to pakistan.....well people who talk about friendship and bhai chara crap would have known the results. Besides india isnt much of interested in the project as they seem to be happy with the 123 deal with US. We should carry own with the project as it will also help the two brotherly countries to come together leaving the differences of the past behind. I sincerly hope this project gets started.

TPI? I thought it was TAP.

TPI? I thought it was TAP.

Your correct. Error on my part.

Thats a very good point, but then if everyone was an *** on the earth. The earth wouldn't survive would it? :cheesy:

I still believe that it should go through, it will give us an edge and build up friendly ties between the two countries which will benefit the both.

The indians are never sincere when it comes to dealing with pakistan,we might want friendly ties on a equal footing but the indian govt does not.
It see's pakistan as a country that needs to be bought under indian control,it could not achieve it through its military and will now try to economically subjigate us.
I share your view that we should build up friendly ties but it like asking the palastinans to let a oil pipeline feed israel's military industrial complex for the sake off better ties.

Iran pipeline ultimatum to India

TEHRAN: Iran yesterday expressed impatience with India over the finalising of a multi-billion dollar gas pipeline deal via Pakistan, warning that it could go ahead with Pakistan alone if India procrastinated.

Caretaker Oil Minister Gholam Hossein Nozari said New Delhi and Islamabad were still in discussions over the payment of transit fees by India to Pakistan for Iranian gas from the so-called "peace pipeline".

He said Pakistani officials were certain to come to Iran next week for talks to finalise the project but the attendance of Indian representatives was still unconfirmed.

"Our preference is to have a tripartite negotiation. (But) the trend is moving faster with the Pakistanis," Nozari said.

"The Pakistanis and Indians are having discussions on the transit fees. If we believe that a serious delay has occurred with the Indians, we will go ahead with the Pakistanis."

The Iranian envoy to the pipeline project, Hojatollah Ghanimifar said according to state media: "We have invited the Indians for these negotiations but so far their presence is not definite."

Discussions on the $7.4 billion project started in 1994, but have been held up by technical and commercial issues.

There have also been strong objections to the pipeline from the United States - a key friend of Pakistan and an ever closer ally of India - which is at loggerheads with Iran over its contested nuclear programme.

The 2,600km pipeline from Iran's giant South Pars gas field will initially carry around 60 million standard cubic metres per day of gas.

India, which imports more than 70pc of its energy needs, has been racing to secure new supplies of oil and gas from abroad besides ramping up production from domestic sources to sustain its scorching economic growth.

Pakistan will itself receive gas as well as transporting India's share. India will pay Pakistan for the cost of shipping its share of the gas to the Indian border.

Iran has the world's second largest gas reserves after Russia but until now has remained a relatively minor player in the global export market.

From begining, I believed that Indians used this forum as a blackmail tool to transfer American neuclear knowhow to India. This is very un-fair tactics and most unfair to American scientists, whose long hard work will be given out in plate by few pro-Indian US congressmen.

India skips Iran-Pakistan-India pipeline meet

NEW DELHI: India is skipping a crucial official level talks on the USD-7.4-billion Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline beginning in Tehran this week, saying it will not attend tri-nation meetings unless transit fee issue is resolved with Islamabad.

Iran had called a meeting of technical experts and lawyers from the three nations during September 24-26 to exchange views on the gas-supply contract that India and Pakistan, as consumers, would have to sign with fuel supplier Iran. Officials of the three countries were to then discuss the issue on September 27.

"There are crucial bilateral issues that need to be resolved first before we begin discussions on contractual issues on a trilateral platform," a top Petroleum Ministry official said.

New Delhi and Islamabad have reached broad understanding on the transportation tariff payable to Pakistan for wheeling natural gas through the 1,035-km pipeline segment in that country, but the two nations have not yet arrived at any agreement on the issue."We have communicated to Iran’s Petroleum Ministry’s Special Representative H Ghanimi Fard and Pakistan’s Petroleum Secretary Farrakh Qayyum that we will not be attending the trilateral meeting unless bilateral issues are resolved with Pakistan," the official said.Incidentally, a bilateral meeting of officials from India and Pakistan was scheduled in Islamabad last month but New Delhi cancelled appearance at the last minute citing "pressing urgencies at home." The bilateral talks were to be immediately followed by trilateral discussions, which were attended by Iran and Pakistan but not India.

I guess your right. It is in our interest to insure that India doesn't supersede the level of Pakistan.
