Key Points
- Satellite imagery analysis conducted by Jane’s has revealed the ongoing development of Iran’s Shahrud missile test complex, where in the past year rocket engine tests have occurred and a possible missile base is under construction.
- Although no missile tests had been conducted from the Shahrud complex by late 2017, the launch pad and support facilities appear fully operational and are likely capable of hosting a solid-fuelled missile test at any time.
- Iran is also advancing its liquid-fuelled rockets, having conducted two significant tests from the Imam Khomeini Space Center near Semnan – the Khorramshahr medium-range ballistic missile in January and the Simorgh space launch vehicle in July 2017.
