Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi is scheduled to visit Pakistan to hold talks with President Asif Ali Zardari and to officially invite him to attend the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Tehran.

Iran's Ambassador to Islamabad Ali-Reza Haqiqian told IRNA on Thursday that Salehi, heading a high-ranking delegation, will arrive in the Pakistani city of Karachi on Friday evening.

He will meet President Zardari to extend the Iranian chief executive’s official invitation to the Pakistani leader to attend the 16th summit of NAM and to discuss matters of mutual interest as well.

Salehi will arrive in Pakistan from India where he is on an official visit to hold talks with the country’s high-ranking officials and to officially invite Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to the NAM summit.

The 16th NAM summit will be held on August 26-31 in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Iran will receive the rotating presidency of the movement from Egypt for three years during the Tehran summit.

NAM, an international organization with some 120 member states and 17 observer countries, is considered as not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc. It represents nearly two-thirds of the UN members.
