Congratulations to all Iranians.

During the ongoing talks, Russia has strongly supported Iran’s full membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and asked all other members of SCO to unanimously support and approve the same.

==========================================================
TEHRAN — Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has voiced his country’s support for Iran’s full membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Speaking during a press conference with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif in Moscow on Tuesday, Lavrov said that Moscow has been supporting Iran’s membership bid to the SCO from the very beginning, IRNA reported.

The Russian foreign minister added that acceptance of Iran’s request requires the unanimous vote by all the member states.

He noted that Moscow will do every effort in this regard.

Zarif said that Iran enjoys all the privileges for full membership at the SCO.

He said that Russia sees no obstacle to Iran’s full membership in the organization.

Iran has currently observer status in the SCO.

Zarif visited Russia on Tuesday in his third trip to the country in the past six months.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Abbas Araqchi also accompanied him during the visit.

During the visit, Zarif talked with senior Russian leaders, including President Vladimir Putin and Lavrov, on different issues.

I believe some Central Asian country opposed Iran joining the SCO in the last summit. I think it was Kazakhstan if I'm not mistaken.

Nevertheless, I do not understand the value of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization at the moment anyway. You have a bunch of countries with conflicting interests in it. Russia and India have strong economic and military ties, while China and Pakistan are hostile to India. How can China and Pakistan cooperate in security matters with India when they are in open confrontation with each other? That doesn't make much sense. Does it?

It will work fine if rest of the members give into what China wants that is a group with China as it's leader ,but that's never going to happen .

China and Russia. All documents are in Chinese and Russian. It's pretty much like a neo-Communist bloc in my opinion. Except that it's not called a communist bloc.

Apparently Russia wants India there.

In the past Russia supported India.

Russia no longer supports India.

Russia, China & Pakistan have formed an alliance.

Turkey will also be joining SCO shortly along with Iran.

But aren't the Russians delivering S400 to India?
I believe I read on PDF recently that India wants to buy 30 something Migoyan and Sukhoi jet fighters and Russia has agreed to sell them to India.

Also, Wikipedia might have not been updated lately, but I don't see Turkey as an applicant for membership in the SCO. And they're a NATO member as well. They are a dialogue partner though.

You forgot North Korea :-) which had defence pact with China and none you mentioned have

I don't see the usefulness of the SCO now.
I mean Russia felt threatened by China's growing influence in Central Asia (Russia's "near abroad"); so russia calls in india.
Meanwhile to counter india's inclusion china called in pakistan. At this point the whole organization becomes useless because considering the present & past situations, pakistan and india can never really work together.
