What's new

Iran announces a new tank called Karrar

why hasn't Iran reverse-engineered the M1 Abrams??

.
I already told that IRGC is working on new tanks especially after gaining new exprinece in Iraq and Syria ....
look like Syria and Iraq war force our old Generals to reform their military strategies and don't stress on asymmetric warfare too much ....
and I guess they will name it as Zulfiqar 4 ...

Few countries in the world have the capability to develop an indigenous MBT; they are Germany, USA, Russia, France and UK. Other countries can only modify existing platforms and give them new names.
add China , Japan , Ukraine , South Korea , North Korea , South Africa , Brazil , Poland , India and Turkey ...
the main issues is that most of countries can produce tanks under licenses and save money instead of making 0-100 indigenous Tanks ....

Designing an indigenous MBT platform need more than 2 billion dollars ; and with this money , many countries can buy 200-250 advance tanks from main producer ...

No ballistic protection against even small arms. This is at most a patrol vehicle in sandy areas.

because it is not tank at all .... our Generals are not good at naming their devices ...

why hasn't Iran reverse-engineered the M1 Abrams??

because we don't have it ... and why we should reserve engineering something like M1 Abrams !?
it sets to use western subsystems ( from canon to light !!!) so reverse engineering it is more expensive than making new tanks ...

As far as i know, we spend $500 million for the development process..and paid $500 million to South Korea for ToT. Planinng to produce 1000 Tanks. Though i don't how much we spend/planning to spend for development of the sub-systems.

that's just designing and development cost for prototype ,after it come production phase and you also spend a lot money in that phase. in the production phase a single tank is a lot cheaper but here we talk about a lot of tanks so the production cost for all the tanks would be even higher when you produced those 1000. after that come the maintenance.
sadly maintaining an army is not cheap .

Iran has a few M1 Abrams. I've seen pictures of Iranian posing with M1 Abrams in Iraq.

M1 Abram is a world premier tank. taking it apart and reverse engineering it's sub-systems wouldn't be too difficult or expensive

Iraq is not Iran ... we can pose with F16 or even Su35 but that doesn't mean we owe those birds ...
and then we should reserve engineering its engine , canon , fire control system and so !?
some times designing something from begging is a lot easier than reverse engineering existing device ....

Oh my . what did i miss here ? another Turkish jealousy shitfest ? why can't you people act like human beings once in your life ? do you see Iranians posting in your section ? No . the reason : you simply don't matter .

give it a rest and enjoy your life people .

=======================================

Karrar is not a perm. name BTW . it can change in future .

It is only a new platform for future tanks... It is not like you see this prototype concept in battle field like this!! It enjoy very fast +120 km/h speeds in off roads... It has a gun controlled by the user from inside the fuselage and is supported by many different day and night sensors... It is a concept to which Iranians see their future tanks based on...

News : bigger flying wing drones... Manned flying wings ! :D
I have heard the same... Big flying wing UCAVs... New radars...

see what houthies are doing to them in Yemen! without depleted uranium armor, it's an ordinary tank.

BS. This news seems to much of a coincidence. A couple days ago Russia announced it willingness to export and license the T-90 tank to Iran and presently they announced their new tank in development with "elements and features of the T-90". Seems to me Russia either offered the design of the tank with transfer of technology or simply a renamed licensed product like the Pakistani army's new tank tender.
You're right. This bypass the ban on the sale of arms to Iran.
Russia will transfer technology and production line in Iran. Especially UralVagonZavod replace production line T-90 T-14. And that would not have to throw away just like that, send lathes most likely to Iran.

All jets are more or less based on the prototype that Wright brothers made but still.
I think that I couldn't elaborate my point properly.

An MBT have hundreds of parts in it. My point is that few countries in the world have the industrial capability (and access to relevant resources) to develop these parts on their own. Since these countries can develop an entire MBT (almost) by themselves, they are also likely to produce workable designs.

Many countries do not have the industrial capability to develop an MBT indigenously. Now, this doesn't implies that they cannot have domestic MBT projects. However, these domestic MBT projects are also made possible through foreign exports and based on proven designs.

For example; Al-Khalid MBT is one of the domestic projects of Pakistan. However, it isn't indigenous in the manner as a layman may assume.

The above is true for passenger planes as well. Few countries in the world have the industrial capability to develop a passenger plane indigenously. Again these are USA, UK, France and Russia.
