IRAN-140 joins Iran's air fleet
Press TV - Iran's aircraft manufacturer has delivered five domestic-made IRAN-140 passenger planes in a bid to upgrade the country's air fleet.
Manufacturer of Iranian aircraft, HESSA, has delivered the planes to the Islamic Republic's Law Enforcement Agency (NAJA) and Iran Air Tour Airlines in a move to boost the country's transportation capacity, Mehr news reports.
At Wednesday's inauguration ceremony of the first IRAN-140 aircraft delivery to NAJA, Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar said that HESSA's production line is active and the organization is due to manufacture 12 planes in the first year.
Najjar said that Iran aims to build a large number of the cost-effective aircraft at the plant outside Esfahan in order to meet the shortcomings of the country's air transportation.
IRAN-140 is a double-engine turboprop aircraft able to seat 52 people. It can fly almost 3,000 km (1,865 miles) before it needs re-fueling and can land on a dirt airstrip.
The company has also announced plans to build IRAN-140 MP and Iran-140 T for marine patrol and cargo transportation.
