Interceptor missile designed to destroy enemy missiles successfully tested

Thats depend upon how you define success. American define the success if interceptor hit the warhead, thats too in middle of warhead. If India too have same definition, then balle balle... else..

Well, the American interceptor relies on Hit to Kill technology which means it has to actually collide with the incoming missile. Thus the definition!

Our AAD uses a P-charge [projectile charge] warhead (something like a shotgun charge); so no need to hit the warhead.......we just get close and shoot it down!:devil:

Only useful application is ASAT, modern ballistic missles are impossible to intercept even with multiple interceptor.

BALASORE (ORISSA): India today successfully test-fired indigenously developed interceptor missile, capable of destroying any incoming hostile ballistic missile, from a test range off Odisha coast.

"It was a fantastic launch. The trial, conducted from two launch sites of Integrated Test Range (ITR) for developing a full fledged multi-layer Ballistic Missile Defence system, was fully successful," ITR Director S P Dash said.

The 'hostile' target ballistic missile, a modified surface-to-surface 'Prithvi', was first lifted from a mobile launcher around 1013 hours from the launch complex-III of ITR at Chandipur-on-Sea, about 15 km from here.

After three minutes, the interceptor Advanced Air Defence (AAD) missile positioned at Wheeler Island, about 70 km from Chandipur, received signals from tracking radars installed along the coastline and travelled through the sky to destroy it, defense sources said.

The ITR director said the interceptor hit the 'target' missile at an altitude of about 15 km over the sea.

"Detailed results and the 'kill' effect of the interceptor are being ascertained by analysing data from multiple tracking sources," a Defence Research Development scientist said.

The interceptor is a 7.5-meter long single stage solid rocket propelled guided missile equipped with a navigation system, a hi-tech computer and an electro-mechanical activator, sources said.

The interceptor missile had its own mobile launcher, secure data link for interception, independent tracking and homing capabilities and sophisticated radars, sources said.

The previous trials were conducted on November 27, 2006, December 6, 2007 and March 6, 2009 from Wheeler Island.

The fourth test which was scheduled in mid-March 2010 was put-off twice. Due to some technical glitches in the sub-system of the missile, the mission was aborted prior to its take off on March 14.

The next day on March 15, 2010 the target missile, modified 'Prithvi' deviated from its pre-determined trajectory which forced the scientists of DRDO to put-off the launch of the interceptor missile in the last minute.

However, the fifth trial of the interceptor in its series, conducted on July 26, 2010 incorporating some new technologies to the interceptor missile was a success.

Similarly, the last trial conducted on March 6, 2011 was also successful, sources added.

ours is a modified version not the same we wanted green pine as well as Arrow but in the end we only got 3 Green pine and 1 was used for research.


However, it differs from the Israeli system as it employs Indian Transmit Receive modules, signal processing, computers and power supplies. It is also more powerful than the base Green Pine system and was developed to meet India's specific BMD needs.

what difference does it make....do u honestly believe that our scientists who can write the algorithms for such a complex system.....it took them 20 years to write something for LCA.....India is actually pretty good at manufacturing top class hardware for highly specialized uses and when it to software against the common perception we are very bad...pretty much suck

Saraswat said Russia, Israel and France provided assistance in areas where DRDO needed help "bridging technology gap and accelerating technology development." Russia helped India develop the new Radio Frequency Seeker for the interceptor, Israel provided help in developing the 'Swordfish' long-range tracking radar and the French helped with the Fire Control System for the BMD.

You are wrong here, In indian case, we buy technology. The code is given to us, they give proper KT (Knowledge transfer) based on that our Engineer improve the system.

You will be surprise to know that India make better engine than Kaveri (Like AL31). So in this case we need not to work from scratch. your doubt is not valid in this case... :)

you cannot modify the code you do not understand let alone improve it......

Since it will be indigenous production, we should produce such interceptor missiles in couple of thousands, and place in all tier I and tier II cities....

Hitting a bullet with a bullet.......... awesome technology.
