INS Viraat completes 25 years in the Indian Navy on Saturday, 12th May 2012

Yes but im more worry than happy about any misshapening Like MIG-21:fie:
Harriers are proved to be as dangerous as Mig21's in crashing . Viraat currently has only few harriers with additional rotary wing aircrafts .

In my opinion, they are running Viraat just because IN remains a carrier navy, i think viraat today is more a liability than an asset.

Yes and no! It is a burden for IN to maintain and upgrade it, especially with the Sea Harriers on board too and they surely would love to replace it with a newer carrier. However, whatever problems, costs or issues we have in mainting it in peacetime, if a war happens it is still the most important asset in IN, because it still gives IN superiorty in the Arabian Sea or Bay of Bengal to cut suply routs, search and destroy subs and attack shore bases of course. It can carry numbers of helicopters and even troops if necessary and would be the prime command post for any IN landing operation today.

INS Viraat
+ carrier battle group
+ INS Jalashwa
+ LSTs

Is a pretty good mix and gives IN the biggest landing capability in the Indian Ocean besides the USN.

ya can't imagine what the situation will be if Viraat would be without its harriers.
